  • Washed iPod

Soooooo....my 2 year old 160GB iPod went through the wash today. Bottom line is it toast?

Found a thread that said to put it under a lamp for 2-3 hours and then in a bowl of uncooked rice for 3-5 days. I know the rice trick worked for some cell phones.

I washed my ipod nano once and just let it dry off for a long time.... I remember just leaving it by the heat register and it still worked after. Good luck!

If it doesnt work, try and go get a new battery, or order on off ebay. its worth a shot for the $20-$30 they are.

I had my iPod touch go through the washing machine. After about a month it started to work again and has worked fine ever since.

The best thing to do with any wet electronics is take it apart asap. Remove the battery and use a hairdryer to get as much water off as you can. That way you won't get any corrosion on the pcb and as long as nothing shorted out when the water hit it maybe ok with a new battery. Most charging circuitry on the battery end are protected from shorts so it might be ok and need just a new battery. If you you take it apart and it still doesn't work let me know and I might be able to revive it for you.

As long as you dont turn it on and dry it quickly it might be okay, since you cant remove the battery or can you? Go to a clothing store and grab a bunch of dessicant packages from the pockets of clothing, will work much faster then rice, and fill a ziplock with them and the pod.

make sure it doesn't turn on, chuck it in a BAG of dried uncooked rice for a week, nothing less.

this will ensure its absolutely dried out.
then try and turn it back on, best case scenario it works, worst case you're back where you started having to buy a new one.

if it fell in anything other than clean fresh water, rinse it with distilled fresh water THOROUGHLY to ensure that contaminents get out. then dry it out and see

I always meant to save a bunch of those little packages of crystals that come with electronic devices....they are supposed to be good a sucking moisture out..
