    Re: Flames are golfing

Iginla is on the decline. He used to drive possession and stats all by himself.

That is no longer the case, and he is no longer a 7 million dollar caliber player.
Makes me sad, but the truth sometimes hurts.

        Re: Flames are golfing

this last season they said 2010 was going to be his big year and he was going to light it up. WRONG.

he's currently not worth $7million, especially on a team with cap issues. They have 2 options. Ride him out and hope he improves. Trade him for talent thats playing well now, while he is worth something, and DRAFT PICKS. that will ensure the organization can grow down the road. The flames dont have much in their draft system at the moment, and have relied on trades for the last 5 years.

There's more to Iginla than his yearly stats. I know I sound like a broken record, but he is the best Flame ever. Rondal, you could relate, Linden class & leadership with Bure stats. (well not quite Bure stats, but pretty close). I read alot of 'nucks fan blow-up over Linden being traded. It would be similar here.

But if Gretz.. er Phaneuf can be traded, anyone can.
I don't doubt Sutter gets offers. I'd expect it to seriously knock his socks off, in order for him to pull the pin.

            Re: Flames are golfing

I can't believe that the city is pinning the failure of a team on Igg. It makes me sick. Sure the guy didn't produce record numbers this season, and regardless of what he's paid, it takes a team effort, as anyone who plays team sports ought to know.

There was actually some article about a sports writer who is fairly good friends with an NHL coach or GM who said when playing the flames, all they had to do was cover Iginla and shut him down, and they'd beat the flames, simply because there is no one else to get the job done. It goes into more detail, but it was an interesting read.

A lot of our guys were underachievers when you look at their previous season totals, NOT just Iginla. All this nonsense of trading Iginla is quite disturbing and it would be one of the worst moves in the history of the Calgary Flames in my opinion. As cam said earlier, he is the best Flame in the teams history.

Let's wait till next season and see what Iginla can do with a team that has had time to gel and bond and get some actual chemistry before we talk about cutting out our most valued player. The team would be pretty good if we could get them performing to their full potential.

Anyways, seeing Iginla talk about himself waiving his NTC if asked is disgusting and should be stopped immediately, f***n media is ridiculous sometimes. We need to be showing support for the team, not crying like babies that the flames didn't get to lose in the first round of the playoffs like the last 5 years.

I think everyone is also forgetting how great Iginla is for the face of the team. The guy always has a smile, is a great public speaker and is truly genuine in his love of the game and the flames organization. My brother and law played with him back when they where both with the Blazers and he told me that is not a face he is putting on, he truly is a really nice guy. Some loyalty needs to be shown to him like the loyalty he showed to the team and the fans when he signed his last contract. He was in high demand after a huge season and his contract was up, he told everyone he wanted to stay in Calgary and he signed a long term deal when he could have gone else ware and made way more money (although that was pre cap days).
