  • How to fight the geen/red light cams

    It will be simple but frustrating. If every one in ALL the car clubs in town drove at 45KPH EVERYWHERE (Deerfoot included) the city might get the hint. It would be a case of careful what you wish for. You won't break any laws but it would sure tie things up and the city or the cops could not do a thing. That's what the city wants us to do is slow down.... well give them what they are asking for. Not only that, the amount of tickets would go way down and they would loose money big time because red light cameras and speeding tickets are their source if income. We would just have to do it for a week and once the public caught wind of it it would be supported. Give the city a nice dose of civil disobedience.

    how about you just do what i'm doing....

    1. dig my V1 out of the toolbox and put on windshield of smurf
    2. toss garmin GPS with programmable POI's (or use BB/iphone equivalent) and go on the City website and upload all the intersections with cameras. Turn POI proximity alert ON.

    drive around like an asshat and slow down when things beep at you.

          I have friends that are cops and they they told me there is no such thing as a ticket for driving too slow. I know this because I asked them about the drivers on the Deerfoot that are driving slow causing accidents. I was told there is nothing they could do because they aren't breaking the law and the only thing they can do is pull them over to tell them to speed up. There is technically no such traffic violation for driving too slow some one might want to check it out but this is what the cops are telling me.

                  actually there is a few laws regarding driving too slow....

                  Alberta Traffic Safety Act Section 115-2-b

                  115(1) For the purposes of this section, a driver of a vehicle is driving carelessly if that driver drives the vehicle

                  (2) A person shall not do any of the following

                  (b) drive a vehicle on a highway in a manner that constitutes driving carelessly;

                  And 115-2-Q
                  (q) drive a vehicle on a highway at a speed that is less than the minimum speed limit established or prescribed for that highway under this Act;

                  or how about 115-2-S
                  (s) where a minimum speed limit is established or prescribed under this Act for a highway with respect to a period of time, drive a vehicle on a highway during that period of time at a speed that is less than the minimum speed limit established or prescribed for that highway for that period of time;

                  that took me less than 5 minutes to look up. So either your full of **** or your cop friends are full of ****. But neither of you are correct.

                    And what exactly is the minimum speed limit established, and where exactly is this posted? I've lived in calgary for almost 20 years and NEVER have I seen a MINIMUM speed limit sign. Not saying that cops cant give you a ticket for it, cause they can give you a ticket for anything, but that whole law act is full of sh!t as far as i'm concerned

                        I think its more of 'keeping up with the flow of traffic speed'. I mean if your on Deerfoot and everyone is doing lets say 100km and your driving along at 50km consistently then I think it would be game to get a ticket....

                            And I full agree with you. However pulling the Law act into a discussion like this is rather useless when it present buillsh!t statements such as "minimum speed established".

                            Therefore I cannot see a cop giving me a ticket for "driving too slow" when there is no minimum speed posted. Its a tough matter to debate, but I can truly say that if I was to ever get such a ticket, I would be fighting it to the fullest.

                            Now let me repeat myself. I agree with the above statement that someone going too slow deserves to get a ticket. All i'm saying is that the law act seems to have a loop hole when it comes to this matter. Now i'm way to lazy and really dont care enough to look further into this, but if there is some part in the law act that clarifies this, then I will retract my statement. until then, I'm sticking by it!

                              I grew up in Montreal if your driving slow you will get pulled over/Run off the road by a angry french trucker.

                              This is wht they hane Minimum Speed Limits

                              Min 85KMh/Max 110Kmh .

                              IMO that should be the rule on most highways not residential odviously.
                              someone doing 80 on deerfoot is more dangerous than someone doing 120
