You will have to be creative if you want out of the ticket. You won't be able to plea ignorance or something they have heard a million times. I was actually briefly thinking of some excuses.

How about..you had to avoid hitting an animal (lets say a coyote. If you say a dog or cat..its less believable because they have probably heard that one already). He was running towards you, and if you slammed on the brakes, you wouldn't have avoided him due to the distance involved. So the only logical thing left to do was accelerate. Thats just off the top of my head. Probably won't work, but its worth a shot. At the least you can bring down the fines total amount by bargaining. But then again..its time off work.

What are you gonna say when they ask, "Sir, where is the coyote in this picture?" lol.

There is hardly any way to get out of these tickets, its really nearly impossible.

I dont know how all of you get pinched so bad. Do you not see "red light" cameras when you are driving? Ill speak for myself and usually pay attention to all of these, thus slowing down when i get near the intersection of one just to be safe.

And to answer to canadian turbo, when coming down macleod(north) and approaching 25th ave, there is no green speed camera there. You can tell the difference if you look at the intersection, there will be a bunch of recengular lines parallel to the cross walk.

i usually spot them no problem. i was in an area i hadn't been in a while, 3 lane stretch of road going the flow of traffic.

im not going to make excuses...i'll just pay them.

I wonder what the angle of the radar beam is? Standard traffic radar is 11 degrees so the beam doesn't travel too far before it is covering all the lanes.

Really I thought all red light cameras were speed on green?

not all i thought they just swapped the cameras around same with red lights? i thought the boxes existed but they only haved so many cameras so they swap them around.. maybe they've caught up now due to bending people over

I understand the swapping but that still means every box has the potential to be one, where Compton seems to be saying that is particular one is never a speed on green?

Re: God Damn Green Light Cameras....grrr

they should all be ABLE to become speed on green if they were red light before. it would simply require a different set of coding for them.
all the requred hardware would be in there, the difference is its either constant ON, or turns on when the light goes red.
it'll always use radar as the trip sensor.

That section of road shouldn't be 50km/h in my opinion. I got one at that same intersection at 3am doing 70, 3 lanes of open road and no traffic....Guess it just felt like it wasn't a 50 zone....I have a feeling they prey on alot of that

There is no speed camera there.I have noticed this ever since this money grab went into play, but it does not mean that they wont put one there eventually. If you just pay attention to the "rectangular lines" at intersections you will know which potentially have "speeding camera" capabilities. As someone else had already mentioned, they only have a few cameras available, so they just swap them around every so often.

Does anyone know if these are lane-specific?
Regular photo radar is no good if more than 1 vehicle is in the picture b/c you can just claim that the other guy was speeding if they actually bothered to send you a ticket. But what about all these greenlight/speed cameras?

I just got dinged in Edmonton on the yellowhead. There was an E30 driving right near me for most of the yellowhead and i'm hoping that he was caught in the picture (he's probably thinking I was caught in his picture too lol).

And while on the subject - I did a search, but only found a list of Calgary intersections. Anyone have any more info on the Edmonton ones?

yes its lane specific. the tickets clearly state the lane number

yeah, but now you'll definately watch your speed there, won't you?

Yeah it sucks to get hit, but at the end of the day I get the point of trying to "hide the photo". It's because when they aren't looking, 99.9% will break the law by speeding. If you don't know when/where they're looking, maybe that means some people will slow down, all the time.

I love how people cry "cash cow"... it only generates revenue if people are breaking the law, if no one sped, it would cost a great deal to run, and would be critized for being "a waste of tax dollars".
