best video DVD backup software?

Hey guys,

I have a bunch of DVDs form the UK i want to copy down on to my network server so i can watch them here. what software is best to rip them to the comp? im not bothered about keeping the menus and stuff really just the main film would be ok. oh and free is better

Anything good, and hacked DVD player for region free works too! I buy DVDs from Amazon.co.uk all the time, really cheap, especially now!

Slysoft software hands down. For stripping region codes they have the AnyDVD, and if you want to make 'backups' of DVDs, they have clone DVD. You can download and use for a month. I'll bet that you won't find anything better and be willing to buy the software when the trial period is up. The best thing is lifetime free updates. This comes in handy for all the new encryption and security features that come out with each new DVD release.

Their customer service is unbelievable too. No, I don't work for them, but I'm just that impressed with their service and product.

Yeah but i wanted them in AVI on the network really. I can play them back now through my hacked XBOX alright. And no that didnt really help lol

I tried using DVD Shrink and AutoGK and it made a great AVI vid but cut the sound :(

Ill take a look at slysoft but i dont think it makes avi's huh?

Not if you're transcoding to mp4 (avi is so old) and playing it through the xbox or ps3. On windows you still have to use dvdrip to remove the protection though. If you're on mac or Linux handbrake it does it all in one shot.

Why fool around with matroska when mpeg4 is available and an accepted standard? Matroska is just a container for mp4s anyway.
