Vancouver 2010 Olympics Luge Crash

Dunno if you guys seen or heard but today, there was a seriously bad crash on the Luge track today by a Georgian Luger Nodar Kumaritashvili...hopefully he's alright...guys only 21

Here's a bit from the article 'Kumaritashvili was clocked at 144.3 km/h before he hit one side of the wall, crashed into the other, and was thrown off his sled and over the wall. He appeared to hit a metal pole on the side of the track after he flew over the wall."

Whistlers Luge track is one of the fastest tracks in the world.

There was a link to the video but it seems like the International Olympic Committee took it off due to copyright claims. I'm sure you can google it and find some before they take them down...again it's pretty brutal.

Found a video dunno how long it'll stay up for but its been confirmed that he died. Very sad condolences to his family and friends. It's sad to see these things happen especially for someone so young.

Very sad. He was really young. Heard he died this morning shortly after the accident.

Was only training. Saw the video pretty scary but from the sounds of it they have built a very wild track, hope we don't see any more of these crashes.

Floated around the office for a while here, not really sure if you actually want to see it. It's pretty horrific, how hard he hits.

Pretty dumb design IMO. As if they didnt know the speeds these athletes compete at and the risks they take. Safety should be the number 1 priority!

Pads or no pads on the pole 144kmh to 0kmh your not going to survive.
its the fastest track in history and has been questioned since day one. In my opinion it should have been looked at more carefully.This should have never happend, to many people have been hurt at this track already and now the luge and skeleton might not happen this year.
Now Canada gets the bad rep

wow. while reading this thread, they just showed it on tv. that was a really hard thing to see. RIP at least he died doing what he loves.

A female luge athlete was interviewed on the radio today and her worst crash in her long history of luge was at that track, she was sent to hospital with stiches and a concussion. She said it's the only track she's afraid of and is apprehensive about racing on it.

That's really sad, lets hope there are no further incidents.
