    Re: Home Theater Build

Good to hear on the projector...I'll order mine now lol! Do you have it ceiling mounted?

Onkyo or Denon are the only way to go imho for home theater receivers...best bang for the buck on mid-range receivers.

No i have a pony wall so i can't do one right on the wall like i would have prefered i went with a draper 106" (matte grey) simple pull down since i will leave it down all the time. I will box in the top eventually once i figure out the mounting.

and once again i was amazed by the projectors quality and flexability and all we where doing was playing around on the wall with it.

Well good news is that HK tech support is good and they got me the new firmware update and the amp now switches HDMI video very well. Just have to hook up the speakers and check out the sound.

Well here are some quick shots still without the screen up (Still fiddling with the custom brackets).

              Projector up

              The mount

              Lit room

              Dark Room

              Close up

No i haven't set up the projector settings yet we just did an auto focus on the blank wall and it did a pretty good job. The screen size is about correct to what it will end up at.

Going to hook up the Audio tomorrow and then give the whole system a test before tieing up all the wiring etc.

                Re: Home Theater Build

                Hi,

I bought the same projector about a month ago and I love it. My old projector was a 1024x576 DLP and had been looking forward to a HD one for years. I was a bit concerned about going with LCD but the picture is stunning and it's so quiet. I'm currently just shining it onto a yellow wall so can't wait to see what a proper screen does for the image.

Now I'm trying to work out whether I go for a 120" or 112" fixed screen. The room is light controlled and I can fit both on the wall with room for speakers at the side. 120" image looks great but the 112" picture would be a bit brighter and some reviewers say don't go over 110" as the projector isn't bright enough. However once you get used to the 120" image it would be difficult to watch the smaller image. The 120" image looks plenty bright enough to me. It's used for playing games and watching films, it doesn't need to be bright enough to watch with a lot of ambient light.

Room is 10' wide by 8' high and 22' long.

                Projector ceiling mounted:

                120" simulated image size:

I just put up my Screen last night (106") and it is great but i would agree with going a little larger as my room is light controlled and the 106" is plenty bright you should be able to do the bigger sizes easily.

be careful about going TOO big for gaming.

i installed a 108" screen in my parents place when i was still living there, and is was fine for some games, but others it was too big. you literally were having to move your head to see things, where you would just move your eyes a bit on a 52" LCD. It became really difficult for FPS's. Guitar hero was also a chore.

                        It pwns for movies though

Sit a little farther back solves that problem. Didn't your mother tell you not to sit to close to the TV you'll go blind!

you can only sit so far away before your back is against the wall haha.

trust me, you'll know what too big is when you get there. it just becomes overwhelming

Just knock down the wall and move back some more! I think my 106" at 18' is fine i could have gone bigger most likely.
