    Re: Home Theater Build

i may just take you up on that hahaha.

I'm wondering how long its going to take, so that I can sort out the timing of actually moving all my stuff in.
Makes no sense to move it in if its just going to get dusty as hell.

            Re: Home Theater Build

Well put the shelves in the Rack and tightened and leveled it. Big mistake on the leveling as of course the walls are no where near level.

Put some of the gear in to see how the spacing looks.

From the seating position. Debating on whether or not i should put a black venier on the edge of the shelves or go with a similar hickory finish as the top of the shelves. Opinions?

Then the next pain will be whether or not to center the screen to the area above the pony wall or below (seating area).

shelves need some black one the leading edge, they look out of place otherwise.
Whats going on the bottom shelf?

                  really?
you stuff is going to vibrate and do other not nice things if it will be sitting in the rack. Can you take out the bottom shelf and just have the sub sit on the floor?

The short term noise vibrations are going to become so irritating, and i dont know what the long term effect of vibrating all of your components at such a low frequency is going to do to them.

I am planning on cutting out a spot for it but need to choose the sub first before i cut.

                      Re: Home Theater Build

I still wouldn't even put it on the floor under the equipment. No matter what you are going to cause the rack to vibrate and long term effects so your equipment will be harsh. The air caught in that small space will vibrate the whole rack. Depending on how loud you have it you are going to have skipping disks at the very least, then on up to lasers out of alignment. The worst that will likely happen over time is failure of the LCD in the receiver and failure of solder joints.

yeah i was thinking the soldering may start to fail over time with the low frequency vibration, as well as issues with the chipboards and stuff.

i also dont know how the bass quality will be effected being in such a small area. while the room itself is big, being confined in such a small area may affect the bass quality. Don't know whether it will be good or bad though

                                Re: Home Theater Build

Well early results are in as we hooked up all the video stuff last night.

                                Panasonic AE4000 = Awsomeness x Eleventy billion

HTPC you guys had me all scared about the screen firmware that seemed to work but i updated it just in case and that made it stop working so i reverted to the old firmware and it works like a charm.

Harmon Kardon AVR1600 = POS paper weight that couldn't video switch if it's life depended on it.

The reason i retired my old Pioneer Elite was because i wanted to have a HDMI switching in the amp so i got this amp and after reading up a little more on it and actually using it. It was a big mistake apparently the $500 amp can't do what a $40 switch from monoprice can. Avoid HK amps if you plan on doing any HDMI switching!
