Since i have no good things going on car wise all repairs etc. All the money lately has been going to the HT. Stuff has finally started to arrive so i thought i would do a build thread of this instead of a repair thread of all my car woes.

Center Channel From RBH I have a strange wood grain thing don't ask.

Thanks to Monoprice got my HDMI cables and my Cat5 > HDMI converters in a handy wall mount plate at a fair price.

Went with some wall sconces on a dimmer switch with a remote of course.

The hole in the wall for my theater equipment rack.

    NEMESIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have owned this couch twice over the last 2 years it still has not been inside the room that was built specificaly for it. F my life!

    Re: Home Theater Build

I have wired three rooms for wall mounted LCD tv's and got all my stuff from monoprice.com. Have yet to have a single problem with anything I bought.

    Are you installing a projector?

Projector is on it's way Panasonic AE4000 going to a 106" screen.

The room is 18' long by 12' wide opening to about 15' in one section so a projector was a must for a room this size.

Goddamn it! You beat me to this by about 3 months lol. We are finishing building our new house right now with a dedicated theater room in the basement. You'll have to let me know what you think of the Panny...I'm torn between it and the Epson 8500UB. Did you get the Panny locally? I see prices in the states around 2k but up here they're closer to 3k!

You mind listing what you're going with equipment wise? I can't seem to narrow down my choices on receivers, speakers, etc.

            Re: Home Theater Build

I Have the Panasonic coming from direct buy for $2180 CDN but they are back ordered like a mofo lately so when it arrive who knows.

I have heard good things about the Epson as well as they are the best two choices out there currently in that price range.

            Equipment so far.

Speakers are RBH in ceiling speakers for the four corners a RBH center channel and i have not purchase my sub yet but i am again leading to RBH as i have a friend that is a distributor and they are a good mid level speaker in sound and price wise.

Amp i had to replace my old Pioneer Elite as i needed something with HDMI switching so i am going with a Harmon Kardon AVR-1600 another good choice in that range is the Denon 1610.

HTPC is a mix mosh of stuff from Memory Express its going to be my Blu-ray player my PVR my connection to the internet and TV tuner etc etc.

Also have a XBOX 360 and the wifes Wii being mixed in.

For a theater rack getting the guys at work to build me one it is just under 5' tall and 2' square should fit perfectly into that hole. (pictures next week)

Screen is a Draper 106" matt grey pull down nothing fancy going to block it in at the top once i get it mounted.

For a projector mount going with a chief mount low profile as i have a low ceiling in the area that the projector will mount.

So far the price tag is sitting around 6-7K but that's with my buddy giving me a lot of stuff at cost and my parents having a direct buy membership. and most likely the cost will go up with more little things added.

Trying to not go too crazy just a nice mid line theater room.

              Re: Home Theater Build

Here is the room before all the wiring was finished and the walls went up.

Seating will be closest to the camera on the right. Rack and such is on the left inside the wall and the projector will mount just below the ducting you see with the wall plugs near the top.

Thanks for the info...any more details on the speakers? Never heard of them but I'm exploring all options. I too am trying to stay in the 7-10k range for the theater which sounds like a lot but once you start adding stuff up it catches up to you.

                    Re: Home Theater Build

They are a smaller company out of the US they can build your speaker in any finish and they have multiple lines to choose from www.rbhsound.com mostly went with them because my buddy was the distributor and he is a bit of an audiophile so i trust his judgment.

Yeah the 6-7K so far is just the equipment not including the couch, mini fridge, paint, tables, blinds etc it adds up quick if you want to finish the whole thing in one go.

                        Re: Home Theater Build

I still have to finish up all the wiring on my home theater but I did but most of my cables from monoprice, you can't beat the quality for the price there. I even have a new projector mount on order from them right now and of course the bulb on my optoma had to explode last night :( There goes $300. If you get getting a new receiver get as many hdmi inputs as you can as it seems everything is going that way and well it does make cabling a lot easier.

You might want to put an extra 2x4 beside the switch box beside the entrance to the door. Depending on what your trim will be at the doorway, the cover for the switch might have a hard time fitting. I usually put 2x4's on all my switches beside doors just to give that extra little bit of space, just in case.
