  • Twitter?

So I didn't want to pollute the MK4 Kit Car thread with this, so a new thread is born.

Does anyone on here actually use Twitter? I don't and really haven't seen much of a use for it. It's apparently a good method of getting information out and a good way of networking although there is no appeal to me for it.

Anybody share your thoughts or insights in the area either for or against it.

      Re: Twitter?

Personally not a fan, I can see the benefit of 'important' people giving updates of what they are up to and such, but I am very tired of the status update, if I cared that much I would ask what you had for every meal.

        Re: Twitter?

        twitter,
a website/philosphy started to "bring people together" in social networks by tweeting to each other.
Ya sure....i write about how my morning bowel movement went and post it off into the internet. How the hell is writing random things into the ether that is the internet bringing people together.
Why dont you pick up the phone and have a conversation with someone, you know, actually get to know them. Or better yet, a face to face conversation.

While I dont see this constant status update trend ending anytime soon, i do see a backlash against it in the future, when people decide they want their privacy back.

Dont get me wrong, its a great way to disseminate information to the masses, problem is there is no filter on that information, and its like an information overload. While I agree traditional media has probably seen its end, newspapers have editors for a reason. Its to sift through all of that information, and figure out what is pertinent and important, so that YOU can pick up on the important things, and leave my updates about my bowel movements on the sidelines.

I read something about some young teeny boper singer that got arrested (or his manager they where unclear) as they refused to use twitter to tell people to go home when hundreds of people showed up at some mall he was at.

            Re: Twitter?

I have been completely anti-twitter up until now. The kit car thread is exactly what is was meant for - you're interested in what someone is doing, he updates in one place rather than 12+ forums, and it's instant. When it's done, you leave.

Or getting traffic reports - instead of checking websites looking for updates, you follow the 1 or 2 sources and it comes to you as needed.

People posting **** like "I'm driving to work right now" or "look at my breakfast" are missing the point.

I don't see myself ever updating my own status as no one would have a reason to follow me, unless it was my kids or something.

                  Re: Twitter?

I agree with most of you guys, the idea and concept is great. It can theoretically be used to a great advantage, except it's been bastardized by the masses. I can see where it'd be a good method of getting the word out to people who don't use RSS feeds for instance. Another example might be where you're a professional of some sort and wanted to share tips, tricks, or observations in your field. Where what you're sending out might be beneficial to your followers (sheep ).

One thing I actually do on Facebook is I post a photo of my lunch almost daily. Almost a 365 photo project, the odd thing is that it started out as a small one off occurrence. What propelled it forwards was the input and interest lots of my friends. I kept getting messages from people asking where I ate, and would wait for me to post the daily photo. As such I'e kept it going, although just out of curiosity I'm going to stop for a week or two and see what happens.

                      Re: Twitter?

im debating taking on a photography 365 project this year, but after speaking to a guy i know who just finished it i dont know anymore whether i want to. he said the internet can have some serious peer pressure, and no it doesnt matter what you are doing there are always people wanting to follow someone.....weird people.

what do you guys use as your twitter control panel? tweetdeck etc?

                        Re: Twitter?

I used it for a short while to see what the fuss was about. I found it pointless, so deleted my account. Its pretty much the same thing as status update on facebook.
