Re: Hahaaha win!
this guy with a gti had "honda friends" that told him they could give his car 50 more horses for $250 by doing a "cheap mod" and adding fins to his turbo. Apparently its worked on hondas so this guy went for it.. that picture that you see is the mod that was done.. lol extra fins on his turbo..drive green ||

Haha yes he did and when he complained, well this is the message (what musicalgenius posted up top)
"Well it wasn't completely his fault. He said I didn't dial the boost setting or something.
And I'm going to school for Computer Science"drive green ||

Guy did a cheap mod to my car. problems please help!!! « » 9:53 PM 12-21-2009
So I got this tight GTI for as a Christmas present from my parents cuz I was doing good in college. I found this guy who is really good with cars. He only does Hondas but he said he can try something on my VW. I let him because he makes Hondas go really fast and his mods seemed legit. He told me that instead of spending like 3k on mods, he can add extra fins to my turbo and that would add about 50 horsepower. And he only charged me $250!!! I got all excited because that would be awesome so I dropped the car off at his apartment. I picked it a couple hours later and something was wrong. It felt like the engine was under a lot of strain and it was a lot slower. I called him and he said that I just needed to run 91+ octane and the floor it for a couple minutes so it gets used to the extra fins. I tried that with my friend who fixed a couple lawn mowers back in HS so he knew engines a little. We put it in park and floored it to 5500 rpms. It was fine for about 30 seconds and then there was this weird grinding noise and the engine died. We started it back up again but it barely ran. Very rough and the check engine light is now on.
I called the guy but he said it was my fault because I didn't type in the right boost setting. I don't even know how to do that or what it means. So I'm on my own.
Has anyone had this issue before? If so, please help me out. I'll post a pic as soon as my friend takes my turbo off.
