  • Windshield-mounted Radar Poll/Review

    Hey All,

    Just thought I'd throw up a quick poll so here goes:

    Please vote accordingly and then tell us:
    - What model of Detector you have;
    - What do you like most about it;
    - What do you like least about it; and
    - If you upgraded... what would you buy?

    Cheers...

    I'll start it off:

    Escort 8500 X50 Blue
    + Blue lights nicely match VW interior lights, X-Band can be disabled, Good sensitivity
    - Would like to have a more stealth install
    Upgrade: Nothing at the moment. Still waiting for the "next generation" of Smart detectors that will link up to your cars OEM Navigation screen (ie. Trapster 2.0)

      vector 985 (getting old now)

      -fairly nice looking, not to clunky
      -ability to turn off x-band detection, because its fairly useless and most false alarms are on x-band
      -pretty good at not beeping at random crap. It filters signals well
      -has a voltage meter... kind of gimmicky, but I've used it!
      -Great customer service. Too many summers of sitting on the dash and heat damaged the speaker. Bel sent out a speaker for a few $, no problem.
      -Doesn't have the arrows that a valentine does to show direction of signal, but actual detection is just as good, IMO.
      -I'd stick with Beltronics, The arrows on the Valentine are pretty cool, but i don't feel I need them - anyone that has had them will want them again though I'm sure!. On the highway, the cop is either coming up from the front, or he is behind. Either way, slow down.

        Valentine 1

        -Hardwired into car above rear view mirror

        Likes:
        -Various ways to "install" it, hardwired, use spiral cord. There's another way that looks wireless but i'm not 100% sure bout it.
        -Scans front, back and both sides.
        -Ability to get updates from manufacturer.
        -Clear display.

        Dislikes:
        -Price

          I have the Escort 8500 hardwired into the car. The unit itself is mounted of the upper left corner of the windshield...fairly stealth install as you can not see it just by walking by the car (anti theft)

              V1 - hardwired above rear-view mirror on both the S4 and the allroad.

              Love everything about it...especially the concealed display module with mute button.

              Don't like the price, but you gotta pay to play

                  Re: Windshield-mounted Radar Poll/Review

                  V1 or go home.

                  You can set the sensitivity of the V1 for city use and it doesn't pick up nearly as many X band hits. Also if you turn the primer volume switch to mute and leave the main on full you wont get any X band or K band unless they display more than 2 bars.
                  This is awesome because it means i can drive around town now without it going off every second.
