    Re: snow!

Some buddies of mine, skated. Yes with skates on their feet. Skated from their inner city houses to downtown. Played a little game of shinny on the streets of downtown, then proceeded to skate home. All on the roads, with minimal damage to the skates.

Meh, we have brand spanking new Blizzaks on our FJ, that thing 4wheel was having some issues in some places. Going through Mt.Royal was ridiculous. Then dropping me off at Mt.Royal Uni, was actually ridiculous. The ice within the campus was like polished glass. Buddy of mine had his little Ford Ranger, we were able to push his truck around like it was on wheel dollies.

          Re: snow!

my bro helped a guy to push his car off the road on the hill coming out of kensington. So car is on a hill already, they just want it off the road. Bro pushing, and dude gets out to help push. Bro is like wtf? get back in the car, and car rolls away.

This wouldn't be the 10th Street NE hill by chance would it? That hill is a monster! Stay away from it at all costs... and I do mean... all costs when it is bad.

Sorry to hear about your step-dad's ride. Nothing sucks more than being a responsible adult... only to have some other idiot ruin your day. Grrr...

              Re: snow!

5th Street NE, but most of the hills in that area are nuts, plus not sure why the have parking on both sides of narrow hilly streets.

Anyway just talked with him and I guess both wheels on the passenger side are bent in from being pushed into the curb, so hoping it will just be written off at this point so he can look for something else.

                  Re: snow!

snow fell fast, and roads were busy. Any pre-sanding would have disappeared fast, and after that, sanders wouldn't have been able to get to bad spots anyway. It was just bad weather, it happens and not much you can do about it.

A few of the spots would have been much less of an issue if guys would winterize a bit... Still saw lots of summer looking tires out there, and lots of guys that were prepared driving around the cars that were sliding away.

Forcast was only for 1cm or less. Can't be ready for everything or there would be heaps of gravel on our roads 8 months of the year.

                    From the Calgary Herald:
"Between 3 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday, the Calgary Police Service reported 39 collisions that involved injuries and 544 property damage collisions."

Not to mention... the additional collisions to parked cars reported after 3pm on Saturday.

                    What a night!

                      Re: snow!

how many non-damaged cars off the road I wonder. When I drove by sarcee and bo saturday around 11am, there were about 16 cars and a school bus out in the grass.

                        Re: snow!

I was doing some pizza delivery friday night and threw on the Nokian Hakka 5's studded before I took off. Brand new tires and I had a really busy night and never had any problems. Stayed up in the Coventry/Panarama Hills/Harvest/Country hills area, but stopping and starting was fine within reason. Expensive tire, but cheaper then what I have my deductible, so I figured I saved the money and made a good portion back on their first use.

Yeah, there was some sort of hopped up Mustang with like 330's on the back trying to get through Mt.Royal. Was hilarious to watch.

I doubt it, it's not a flash storm and it didn't go from warmish to cold in a very short period of time. Today will be slow moving but not a standstill.
