Re: gas as a tax write off
To legally write off expenses as an employee working on a T4 you need to be given a T2200 by your employer which states which expenses they require you to pay in order to do your job. If you are a non-contractor without one of these authorizations and writing off expenses you are playing a risky game, and probably would not pass an audit.Blair

Re: gas as a tax write off
What liability would the employer have stating that you need to pay for expenses to drive to and from work on a 2200 (kind of implied). I can't see it being that simple for a normal full time employee. Would be nice though!Geoff

Re: gas as a tax write off
Generally your choice of where to live is just that your choice, so how far your commute is, is not usually the employers issue. The T2200 is more for the expenses occuring while doing your job, such as them requiring you to travel, to have a phone, to pay for office supplies etc.Blair
