Doesn't this only apply to people who are subcontractors? Or if your moving from one job site to another once the project is done?

Well I'm a commission salesman. So long as there is travel in your own vehicle which is necessary for your job you can write off some of your gas.

          IIRC.

To legally write off expenses as an employee working on a T4 you need to be given a T2200 by your employer which states which expenses they require you to pay in order to do your job. If you are a non-contractor without one of these authorizations and writing off expenses you are playing a risky game, and probably would not pass an audit.

What liability would the employer have stating that you need to pay for expenses to drive to and from work on a 2200 (kind of implied). I can't see it being that simple for a normal full time employee. Would be nice though!

Generally your choice of where to live is just that your choice, so how far your commute is, is not usually the employers issue. The T2200 is more for the expenses occuring while doing your job, such as them requiring you to travel, to have a phone, to pay for office supplies etc.

So what's the con to having the company fill out one for things like internet and cell phone? Do they have to pay anything extra or have any risk? I work in IT so technically I should have email access at home (thus internet). So if they put that in writing that internet is required, I could write off my entire shaw internet bill? Seems unlikely it's that easy?
