Re: Upgrading to Windows 7: Questions

I know this thread was mostly for a media PC, but just wanted to say I have been using Windows 7 Ultimate for a little more than a week in a work setting now and I have been very happy with it, especially on a nice new machine!

The new task bar with preview popups and the snap feature make multi-tasking a breeze!!

Re: Upgrading to Windows 7: Questions

Bumping this back up, my transceiver is acting up and I'm looking for options to replace it. Microsoft is adding media center support to all their OS's standard but they have discontinued the Hardware!

Anyone have any ideas for a new remote and transceiver? I've heard the Harmony 890 is RF and has a transceiver but can't really find good info on it.

I guess the other option would be the HDPVR shown back in this thread.

The HDPVR uses the original MCE Remote

Thanks my remote is fine, it's the transceiver that's the problem, I also have the old IR keyboard which still works fine.

For now I'm getting by with a wireless mouse and keyboard until I figure out what I want to do.

                Jason,

I got one of these on the weekend, it's a solid remote with great options.

That looks really nice and seems to be well priced compared to the Logitechs. What I really need though is a new IR Receiver as that is what actually acts up. I've heard that some remotes will come with them but have yet to see one actually include the receiver and IR Emitter for changing the channels.

I would love to! But then what controls the sat box? Still need the emitter to change the channels.

Well bought a new tv this weekend (Futureshop had a crazy sale) and also got an HD receiver for 1/2 price so was going to buy the Hauppage HD PVR and they are out of stock EVERYWHERE! I was excited to get it going but looks like I'll have to wait.

No Firewire support on the Shaw direct HD box though so looks like I'll still be stuck with IR, or I'll maybe get a converter down the road.

Also, I didn't buy it for the feature but the TV is completely wireless, interested to try it out, I guess it transmits full HD to the TV. Only drawback is if you want to use the TV without the wireless there are really no inputs on the back of the TV.

been using the W7 RC for 8 months or so and finally upgraded to the OEM version.
they fixed a few things which is good to see. I've noticed much quicker load times in IE8, and it runs even quicker than before according to my CPU usage tracker i had installed with the RC and with the full version.

I dont know how many of you know about "godmode", if you dont its well worth enabling as you can tweak all kinds of stuff to make it fully customized to how you want it.
