  • subwoofer cable

About 2 or 3 months ago I ripped open my living room wall and installed all my TV/Audio cables, the one cable I overlooked was a subwoofer cable. I did how ever install a set of RCA cables that will not be used in my final install, can I run my sub off of this cable?

I've used random RCA cables (Red \ White) with subs before, its pretty much the same type of cable. Just match up the colors and you should be good to go.

Thats what I thought, I am sure its not the best idea in the world but it is a lot better then opening up my wall again.

they'll work fine. You can use a coax cable also. You just have to buy a little adapter end (you can actually buy the wall plate with a threaded coax end on the back and an RCA connection on the front).

You could always just use the RCA's as your fish and just use them to pull the new cables through, assuming you didn't tie them down at all.

Not all cables are the same
You can use a regular RG6 like posted or one of the other RCA's but you will have a bit more line loss in the straight RCA unless they heavy duty.
Since you didn't use a pipe in the wall to run your cables (which I would have done) I hope all your cables are in wall rated.

Well your welcome to come over and reinstall all my cables in a pipe if you like haha jk. Yes I used all in wall rated cables along with some extra outer shielding.

I will give it a try and see how it works, the RCA cables that were installed are of a 'higher' quality and I am sure I wont notice any line loss.

Short distance will be fine, also depends on how good your sub and source are, etc.

its only about 7 feet of cable, I am going to test it out this weekend and see how it sounds. If I can tell a difference I will reconsider my sounds system.
