ahhh that makes sense them about most NA cars governing at 160

i also used to laugh in highschool i'd pass my friends blazer or f150 and they'd hit 160 and bounce as i'd fly right by in my old carb'd v8 haha

In terms of cars like audi's or bmw's they should not have this put into their cars.
Besides its not like most people who drive these cars can't afford a ticket, although the person driving the cobalt might have a hard time with a ticket that big.
From what I understand how limiters work here is that the manufacture can't put a speed any higher then the tires that they equip the car from the factory with. So most times they limit cars between 160-180 for most of the economy cars.

Just my 2 cents, but this will not encourage me to buy anything new.

With regards to your comment about economy cars should have it yet cars like BMW or Audi shouldn't, leaves me a little confused. Sure your wife's cobalt may be underpowered, but the SS version certainly isn't. Even though it may not be a BMW or Audi, it is certainly made with performance driving in mind. So, shouldn't this version be excempt from the restriction?
I know alot of people who professionally race civics, cobalts, and other economy based cars (although with modifcations), should they be restricted by this law? A driving enthusiast is just that and shouldn't be exempt because of the type of car he drives.
Also, I'm not sure what relevence it is whether someone can afford a ticket or not.
MY point is, it's the whole premise of this bill to put 150km/h limiters on all vehicles regardless of manufacturer and outlaw you from removing them. Once you start making concessions about which vehicle must or must not have the restrictions attached, the politicians flooring this bill have already won (divide and conquer.) Having concessions sets a precident to which there's no end. IE: This year we'll put restrictions on "economy" cars, next year we'll put them on trucks and SUVs, the year after that luxury cars, and so on.
With regards to current limiters on domestic vehicles and their respective tire ratings, yes, that's how they are set up, but it not law, it's a safety policy of the manufacturer itself, such as GM, but there' no law which stops you from putting higher speed rated tires on the same car, modifying it, and deleting the limiter.
This bill should be viewed as an attack on all driving enthusiasts, period.

But I do agree that this bill is retarded.

I am not sure if I am being a tin foil hat conspiracy theorist, but I am worried the next step will be photo radar set up every kilometer.

My brothers 03 focus ZX3 was governed at 170km/h. However after repeatedly bouncing it off the governor, we somehow managed to push it back to about 177km/h before it governs. Havent driven the car in a long time. who knows maybe by now it kicks in at 180 or more hahaha

Seeing as primary highway speed is 110 (In Alberta at least) governing the speed to 150km/hr should give you more than enough speed to pass.

There is no reason to be driving 150km/hr on the highway, let alone passing people at that speed.

i was going to say there are plenty of times you need to do 150+

i easily go 150+ in 6th just boosting on the highway.. speeds up quick!

in the AR this summer i got it up to 205 passing about 9 dumbasses in a row coming out of crowsnest pass.. and 205 on a STOCK ECU.. i think it governs at 215 or 220.. i can't remember

that being said i didn't continue at that speed.. i slowed down to 120 and made my merry way home with 2 dogs and wife safe as can be

follow 10 camping trailers in a row doing 70 then see if you want your car to max doing 150

Laws of the road (speeding, vehicle modification, etc.) are PROVINCIAL jurisdiction. This is simply some federal idiot trying to get a slice of that power into his court so that they can dictate things.

The PROVINCES should be stepping in on this as it will erode their power, though they are just as useless.

We should have a national driving program, but that doesn't exist so we are stuck with the crap that currently goes on

This is very true, be glad we don't live in Ontario. I do not know all of the laws there, but I seem to remember impounding/crushing cars can happen very easily.
