For now, I'm going to finish the drywall and put up some 1x4 trim along he seam from drywall to wood. It actually looks not bad with the one side good. If I get sick of it, I'll paint the rest.

Have to trim up the windows and door yet too.

I didn't notice the plates while standing there, but they do look off in the photo.

yep r40 all the way and buy a bag or two extra and double layer that crap up

ensure you put proper stuff around the soffits for airflow cardboard battons i used and next spring i'll put a fan on the roof..

            • Re: Garage Build

yeah, there are cardboard baffles you can get that you install on the two edges because otherwise, on the sides where the roof comes down the insulation will be thick enough to touch the roof, which prevents good airflow in the attic. The baffles just keep the insulation away from the bottom of the roof.

Roof vent should be installed too. You can go with a whirly bird deal, or just a louvre style one

yea i installed the roof vent already. 2 of em actually. did you guys just poly it and then put the batts in or do you put batss up then put the polly?

                • Re: Garage Build

i tried a row of batts each way. Poly up first was a bit of a pain. If you do poly first, Id just tack up enough for one row, then stuf in batts, then pull poly over next row. My roof isn't big enough to crawl around in and stuff in insulation. Plus those bastard nails from the shingle cut deep it you stand up too quick .

I just put up a couple rows of batts, then pulled poly over after, then moved on and stuffed another couple rows of batts. If you spaced your trusses right, the batts will hold themselves up.

If you just do a few rows at a time, you can still reach over top of the insulation an squash it in to place if needed without having to crawl up in the trusses.

maybe not the best way, but it worked for me.

alright that sounds not to bad. way easier than the way i was thinking of doing it of putting up poly and then plywood roof. then i was gonna crawl up threw attac space and try that way but that would reallyyyyy suck! thanks guys!! hopefully start it this week if my poly comes in finally

Another good way to do it is cut some thin strips of poly and tack them up to hold the insulation.
