I don't have house above most of my attached, garage so I need to figure out what to do with my ceiling. Are you going to do blow in? or put batts up there?

i put bats of R40 up there on mine jason.. mine was 3/4 not attached to the house

so R40 ahoy and all other leftovers tossed ontop for even more.. plus vapor barrier of course and 1/2" drywall all around which after the fact i found out was way overboard LOL

        • Re: Garage Build

i'd do r40 if any part of the house is above the garage... For houses with the bonus room above the garage, they get cold if your garage below isnt heated full time. There is a lot of heat loss there I think.

dumb question as i'm almost done and its cold out now

but should i add 2 venting louvres to my garage roof? i have vented soffits all around (3 sides) and i put in those carboard baffles to keep airflow before i insulated and sealed it up

hard part installing them now is the fact i have to figure out where the joists are so i don't cut into one LOL

but do i even need the lovres? most houses i see in my hood do have them...

i'd rather not have rotting something in a few years :/

the louvres are like 10 bucks a pop at totem and some sealer gunk i spose.. :/

probably since you have all the other stuff for venting in place. Its all convection venting, so not much will happen without the roof vents I dont think. If you do put them in, try to do it so it fits in with the shingles. Ones above it should overlap the top edge, and the bottom edge of the louver should overlap the shingles below. It would be a bit of a pain after the shingles, but probably not too hard.

I have venting quesitons too. On the wall closest to my neighbour's garage, I had to put in unvented soffit because of the new fire code. I'm thinking to make up for it, I will put a few small holes on the gable end of the house, which will be covered by the vented soffit on the end walls.

stefan i found today you can buy these little hole vents that are like 3-6" wide for soffits that don't have venting holes

rona or totem or depot should have em

cool. once everything is painted in my garage, i should come look at that track stuff.

I got siding on one wall and 99% of one other today. So 2 more to go.

electrical and some insulation done. Can't do too much more insulation though until electrical is inspected.

Broke down and paid for the electrical. Just couldn't find the time.

Big thanks to Danno on here and his buddy. They do good work.
