Ever since the windows automatic update last week IE and MSN Live have stopped working. Thank god for Firefox I can still browse online.

IE doesnt give me an error - it just shuts down.

MSN gives me error 80040154 - I have googled this error code tried following the troubleshooting guide - ran command prompt as admin but it doensn't work. It gives me a syntax error or file not found. Move to next step, I have downloaded and installed msxml3.dll, restarted the computer still no success.

I cant uninstall IE because it is a vital part of Vista (what BS) and I can't find MSN Live Messenger in the programs that I can uninstall from Control Panel. So no luck there.

So basically I'm at the end of what I can try by myself and I am looking to pay somebody to fix it. How retarded. Who would you reccomend or not reccomend to work on your laptop? I would prefer mobile service so I'm not without computer but I dont want to pay $200 to get these 2 programs I barely use fixed.

oh and "get a mac" isnt an option but thanks.

and I should add that I tried calling the morons at future shop. they had 2 suggestions because all updates are done via windows updater and they can't do anything. Right. Thats why it gives me instructions to fix it.

1. System Restore - I tried going back to a resotre point 2 days prior to when it stopped working. didnt work.

2. Backup data and reinstall OS. Really dont want to do this, but hey I might have to

Why not just continue to use Firefox as your browser.....You could also try Pigeon as your MSN Live Chat replacment. Once you look at the choices you will see that there are a of replacement programs that are free and way better than the slop from Microcrap.

IE is used solely for Microsoft updates.
I will check out this Pidgin thing. Hopefully it does cam/chat stuff too so I can vid w/ my sister in Bella Coola (or I could just get Skype and add another program to all of this)
