My girl hates getting her photo taken, thinks she has a bad smile or that she looks awkward. Although I am slowly getting some candids of her.

          Making notes here.
A good camera & some booze should do the trick.

Actually she only takes dumbass MySpace style photos with a couple friends if she's been drinking. Even then it's only a couple pictures, however her friends go overboard. LOL

actually you dont even need a good camera. i cant wait for my new remote triggers to arrive so i can trigger flashes remotely from my old D40.

The D40 unlike other nikons has a hybrid shutter. While nikons like the d80, 90, 300, 700, and even D3 have sync speeds of 1/200 or 1/250, the D40 with its hybrid shutter can do 1/1000th of a second.

For laymen...that means i can shoot on a sunny day and knock of the sky entirely to make it black. shorter shutter knocks out the background like you see in a lot of the photos, making it darker than it really is. at 1/200th you have to be at sunset to get the desired effect. 1/1000th....hello sunshine!

d40 won't command other flashes on its own though right.. you need an external flash like an sb600 to be your comander unit to run your other flashes.

no the D40 will not command on its own.

yes you can do it with another nikon flash but the SB-600 cant do it. Must be an SB-800, SB-900 or the commander unit, the SU-800.

Or you can ditch nikon's proprietary flash control system called Creative Lighting System (CLS) and move to radio trigger or optical slaves.

The cybersyncs I am getting are radio triggers much like the gold standard pocket wizards which are what the pros use.
