Vag Scan pleeeaase

i have 3 vag adapters now in total . i borrowed marks (db-9 serial). i borrowed my neighboors (usb). and i bought one (usb). none of them work with my laptop. must be due to windows 7. that's all i can think of.

i tried with vag-com versions 409.1, 805.3, and 905 beta.

is anyone out there willing to give me a scan? pleeeeeeease

thanx roger . you rocked today!

i changed the plugs the other day . but the misfire continued . i was smart and decided to mismatch the coils so that if it still misfired, i'd see it on a different cylinder. sure enough we saw it on #5 . that meant it must have been the coil . i used the extra coil that was in the box mark, it works great.

i also took off the center console after roger left to diagnose why the cigerette lighter wasn't powered . there is a power plug that connects to the lighter and it was not plugged in . it's fixed and charging my cell phone now

to get vag-com working i'm gonna spin by the futureshop today and buy one of those $269 Windows XP Netbooks with the 8gb SSD drive. that should rock at least one of my many vag-com adapters

i bought the $399 netbook for $269 because the futureshop kid wasn't very smart %44 percent below cost lol .. i have another friend who used to work at futureshop who is visiting me. he works magic

still no luck with any of the 3 adapters i have though. GRRR


anyone have any f'n clue what the hell all the different versions are and what one to use?

i have..
- sensolutions.com adapter
- marks serial adapter
- a vag+k+can commander adapter

and i have a billion of these f'n installers downloaded . i'm turning grey over this!

you have to test the cable before the software works in the options

i have an ebay adapter and a 5 dollar serial cable and it works great.. although i'm version 303.9 which has all the s4 stuff so no worries there

yah i did the test. had it on com3. said it found a device. but said "NO" to a few of the options.

i'll install 303.9 and try that

are there any specific values in the Settings page i need? Like baud rate or anything?

shouldn't if its a USB to serial adapter that may cause you troubles.. mine is straight serial.. i know the new vagcom USB only cables work but thats direct from rosstech of course.

i guess if all else fails 9600 8-n-1 is your friend

it's different settings then a usual serial port menu . doesn't ask for parity and stuff. just says "starting baud rate". which i did put to 9600 but that didn't make a difference.

i 3 adapters
- vag commander
- mark's db-9 serial obd-ii adapter
- sensolutions.com microcan adapter

ross-tech's website says that the microcan won't work. so i can rule out one of the adapters.

mark's adapter should surely work . i just don't know what ross-tech version to use . the vag-k+can adapter should also work.

are you using a usb-serial adapter tho or does your lappy have a serial port??

the usb/serial adapter could be the culprit

go into windows device mangler and then force the settings to be 9600 8n1 and see if that helps

the adapter mark gave you is the same one as mine if i remember right

I'm not too familiar with the software you're dealing with but deal with serial stuff. If your software says it's connected then it won't be baud rate, if that's wrong it won't work at all. Same goes for your USB to Serial.

Do you have 0 comms? Or is it just talking but you can't get all the features?

If it's not talking at all and you are using a USB to serial (as Ryan mentioned) check all the comm ports. I had a dell laptop that had the side USB input as Comm10. Some software doesn't even let you select a comm port that high.

by default windows does use 9600 8n1 .

my profilic usb<->serial adapter must not be happy with rosstech .

i tried all versions, 3, 4 & 8 with no success .

i had the usb<->serial adapter on com3 like i stated earlier . the vag-k+can adapter i had on com4

the vag-k+can i figured was a real vag-com adapter so it'd work. maybe it's a clone? i'm just going to contact rosstech when i get back from my trip next week and purchase a whole kit.

i was hoping to get see if i could figure out why the cruise control doesn't work before my trip lol
