  • Phantom Alert?

    Has anyone tried the Phantom Alert system for photo radar/red light camera GPS warnings?

    I just got it to try today.

      So far so good -- The speed trap feature is a PIA as it warns of places that radar traps HAVE been before in the past so it warns you every 5 minutes. So I turned that off -- the speed camera and red light warnings work well though.

      Enforcement Types

      * Speed Traps
      * DUI Check Points
      * Railroad Crossings
      * Red Light Cameras
      * School Zones
      * Dangerous Intersections (black spots)
      * Speed Cameras: Fixed
      * Speed Cameras: Mobile

        Speed traps have been everywhere and you just need to have a keen eye for that anyways.

          True enough.

          I'll probably buy the lifetime downloads for $100

          Honestly sometimes I'm just busy driving and forget about the red light & speed cameras -- not to mention when travelling to a different city.

          Really just one saved ticket and it's paid for itself.

          I went through three red light cameras today and it warned me of every one -- and warned me of two places where photo vans are placed regularly.

              Blackberry has something similar in their 'app world'... it's called Trapster. I downloaded it this morning to try out.

                  Re: Phantom Alert?

                  I've used Trapster a little bit. For the most part if you live in this city, you will not need it as the spots it points out for you, are user submitted, which you probably also know about. Some area's I haven't been before I will turn it on, but most of the time you are not speeding if you have no idea where you are because you are too busy looking for the signs. I've kept it on my phone just incase but since it is all user submitted and depends on the reliability of the users, I don't use it that much.

                  Will be upgrading my Beltronics RX65 to the new GX65 with GPS location etc... and I will let you guys know first hand how that unit compares to alot of these 3rd party applications.
