Well these DMEs are NOT oilfield equipment. Also these were out of cars that are over 20 years old. Yes the cold solder joints crack, they lead to intermittent connections and the engine just dies. You hit the passenger side floorboard (the DME is under that) and you can turn the car on/off with that single action. Yup, cold solder joint. Take the DME out, re-flow the solder and it's as good as new again. I wish I took a few pictures to show you. I'm sure that I'll see more.
