It's not that the money has disappeared. Having a deficit just means that next years planned budget spending is larger than the amount of money coming in for the year.

THATS the kind of forward thinking this great nation needs!..It would in turn infulence the economy because cheeseburgers, dorittos and slurpees would be 100x in demand

It's not just the big 3, Toyota is also posting a loss.

Also, Domestics have had great profit margins at times so the "0 profit margin" isn't entirely accurate. I was reading a WIRED article a year or 2 ago that stated the Yukon had about a 40% markup in it's prime, pretty good if you ask me.

Someone told me today Analysts are stating now that oil may go down to $20 a barrel? Kind of seems to me that now they are understating so they can buy back in, pretty frustrating.

Meh. Screw analysts; they are half the problem. Whomever says what the market sentiment wants to believe is rallied around and then sadly they tend to make it come true regardless of fundamentals. There has been a $20/bbl guy around since well before the $147/bbl days. It is only being given credibility now because of the rapid downturn.

February spot futures are trading at $50/bbl and some march contracts are going for $80 (of course there are a few wingnuts selling contracts for $20, but they are few). The company I work for has 60% of its production for 2009 pre-sold for around $90/bbl.

I'm with those who are scratching their heads wondering if the worlds production engines really did just 'switch off' or if this is the pendulum swinging back the other direction. I vote for the latter.

Yea, what I meant was it's frustrating that guys can go around saying the future price of something will be this, then when enough people say it, it becomes reality. It's nice having the break at the pumps but A lot of people rely on a decent price for a barrel of oil.

thats what speculators do. thank god a lot of them have been run out of the market with the collapse of the i-banks. fucking goldman sachs and CIBC were the two biggest culprits of the self fulfilling prophecy idea.

I said it two months ago to my roommate, oil will hit $35 before it hits $100 again. This is just the pendulum swining a little too far, it will rebound. The buildup of crude stocks and the countless statistics coming in showing how bad the decline really is around the world has really hit harder than was expected and has forced forecasts lower than was previously thought.

I still think fundamentals are in the high 60's to low $70 range even given the horrid numbers we have seen. it also wouldn't surprise me for OPEC to meet again before March (next scheduled meeting) and announce more cuts if prices continue to fall

Could be a possibility, But I really have no worries about loosing my job like some of the white collars I know. I can always pick up an ohmmeter or a wrench and make money.

A friend of mine here in Edmonton is in real estate and he told me to wait for a few more months before I consider buying a house. He told me that prices are good, but he says prices will continue to drop even more. This is bad news for my fiances sister because her and her boyfriend bought a $350,000 condo during the boom and it is currently worth $260,000.

If I was interested in purchasing some higher end wheels, would you guys recommend I buy now? or should I wait a little longer and hope for the dollar to go up?

If I buy now, I end up paying a significant amount extra due to the currency exchange....but I'm worried it will get worse before the summer.
