    Re: Home theatre ?'s

i work at the deerfoot future shop we have the 70" on display haha. klipch arn't bad. the mark up on all the speakers is ridiculous i can staff 3000 dollar towers for like 600. some of the polk stuff is ok, or energy as well. the guys at best buy dont know **** about hometheater, but then again the futureshop guys will push the service plan hard(which isn't a bad idea on a big tv) but they will know a lot more. if your waiting a bit for the tv wait till after boxing day there will me a million open box tv's most of wich were never even opened or used.

After taking a closer look, the popcorn unit looks pretty good. Lots of file types supported.

Digital Rights Management, the stuff that stops you from playing copied or pirated movies etc or recording something they dont want you to etc etc etc

At times like these look to wikipedia my old dad would say (well not really but here it is in wiki black n white)

for the most part you wouldn't have to worry about it IMO.. unless your downloading movies from itunes and expect them to work

                    Re: Home theatre ?'s

For speakers I'd highly recommend auditioning some B&W M1's. Used as front's and rears with a proper center channel and sub and they're absolutely amazing. Tiny foot print as well. I checked it out with the B&W spherical sub - and now saving my pennies for that set up.

                    M1 system review

That's the home theatre package - but I listened to it with a better centre and a better sub. Unbelievable.

thats all well but when you have a discussion about the popcorn its a media tank design specifically to play AVI DivX and MP3 then i wonder what 99.9% of peeps are gonna use it for.

DRM has nothing to do with pirating or knockoffs. We I buy something buy I movie etc I should have the right to watch it on anything I want without having to me screwed by an industry that has no idea what their customers want.

yup it does all that n more.

my buddy got hit by DRM a couple of weeks ago. we got the UFC on PPV and he wanted to record it on his Panasonic DVD thingy n up comes a message on his screen saying recording prevention signal detected, cannot record program. wtf we payed good money to watch that! that is seriously what annoys me.

Personally i also dont see whats wrong with watching a tv program that you missed for whatever reason by DLing it and watching it through a popcorn. Ive already payed bell for the right to watch it, why cant I?

                                Re: Home theatre ?'s

                                I'm an audiophile.

I'm opinionated about my sound. I have time in listening rooms to back up my beliefs.

But they are just that; beliefs. Not required to be scientifically true, but rather correct enough to convince myself. Sorry if what I share with you offends.

Ditch the soundbar. They sound like shat.

If you have the coin to upgrade your receiver, I would. Cambridge Audio makes an unbelievable HT-receiver that just a couple years ago, I would never have believed could sound so good. It's better than some amp/pre-amp combos I've heard, and for those who know that's utterly amazing. It's called a Cambridge Audio Azur 640R. While it's not future proof, it has all the goodies you'll need to 'Rock the Casbah' for years to come.

Else, Sherwood Newcastle (the manufacturers of receivers for such companies as: Marantz, Onkyo, Denon, Pioneer, etc) has an excellent HT receiver that has a truly amazing video (1080p) up-converter.

Also, I am a fan of Paradigm.

I own speakers of their Monitor series, set my brother and dad up with Studio series, and drool over the Signatures. Not to get into a flame war with Kor but his comment about quality going down and price going up is absurd. Yes prices have been increasing. Take a look around, from soy milk to stamps... everything costs more these days. Quality has increased ten-fold since they introduced the Signature line. Paradigm follows the 'trickle-down-technology' line of thought like Audi/VW. So once the Signatures came out, everything got better as they were improved.

As for your personal HT needs... it all depends on your budget, ears and listening room.

Go see Rod at General Audi on 60th St, just over the LRT tracks from Chinook. Tell hime Dustin sent you ( = excellent service, possibly large discount). He's been around forever (since hi-fi was mono) and can really explain to you (then back it up with a test) why things like different speaker cables sound different. If you're not convinced that Paradigms offer the best value for your money, A/B test some Paradigm Reference Studio100s vs Focal Utopias. At a difference of $3,000 vs. $25,000 it's really easy to see why even mid-range Paradigms are smokin'.

It's understandable that you want some small stuff to be unobtrusive. I'd recommend the Paradigm Esprit series. The mount on wall and sound better than the ones I have at home. While not what I'd buy, if I upgraded to them I'd be happy for another 10 years (provided I got a new sub or kept mine... but hey I love bass). Or the Monitor series in a bookshelf version. If, after you hear some, that's what you're looking for pm me and I have some Mini Monitors and a CC-370 for sale (good price to you cause of this site).

                                Cheers, and good luck!

                                PS

Cambridge Audio offers some kind of music server for mp3s that hooks into an iPod... not sure exactly what the features are. If you head into General Audio ask about it... as I'm sure it's far better than your average Future Shop special.
