Well you could get bookshelf speakers with stands, instead of floor-standing speakers. That's what I did, then I just tuck my subwoofer in the corner of the room.

Remember that nothing can make small speakers sound really good in a big room. My bookshelves are fine for an apartment but in a big open basement I would always buy floor standing speakers.

I run B&W CM1's but you would also not be disappointed with these for the size:

Really depends on your budget and if you want a small floor standing speaker or a bookshelf size speaker.

Yeah I have seen it, looks nice but cannot understand why it is 20grand, you can get some 65" LCD from other brands for about a third the price.

I saw some killer 100" plasmas in Asia in the summer and they were still way less than 20 grand too!

Klipsch has some good ones like that for cheap..I have some of the klipsch Kt-25 series at home, but theyre big. I do enjoy the sound for what I paid though!

Even Bose wouldnt be a bad call, but they're kinda expensive and (IMO) kinda overrated (even though im currently listening to my bose headphones, and have bose computer speakers at home lol)

If you're baller status, go to B&0, pick up a couple of self powered speaks. My pops has nothin' but B&O going into his new place in canmroe, and they've been buying stereos there for all their properties in the last couple years. Phenomenal stuff, but the price tag makes me shudder

Large TV prices are due to the glass manufacturing, the common standard size use to me 52" panes and anything larger needed to me fused together which is expensive and has a low yield, I suspect the standard size has gone up a bit. I believe that is why you still see such large price jumps. Ryan I have a buddy who owns a home theater store I get get some info from him if you send me some specs you are looking for.

Good topic.... I'm in the same boat as Ryan. I have a good Denon Amp, and just bought a 42" LG Scarlet. The thing I really need right now are some good speakers on a budget.
Sidewalks are for normal walkin.... aint no room for fancy walkin....

With a good amp/sub combo even smaller speakers can sound outstanding.

OK for the money I really like the Ascends I posted, but some other ideas:

                    av123 x-sls

                    svs

If you end up buying in like a local big box store, I would look for Polks or Mirage if you can find 'em.

I prefer the home built PC Media Center build, you can make them compact. That way the codecs are upgradeable and you can incorperate the Bluray player. I have had "media extenders" in the past that eventually turned into useless bricks.

the popcorn is a media center tho rob.. its just open source

the home built media center.. how do you connect out to your TV/amp? dvi and toslink?

my neighbour has one and its a useless POS compared to my xbox1 even
