  • Quick Lube Plus

I just wanted to give a major thumbs up to Dave Skrobot the guys at Quick Lube Plus on McLoed Trail (4007 McLoed Trail - next to the 7-11).

My wife's truck needed an oil change so I popped in there becasue I was driving by. The new owners are real car guys, and we BSed about cars and other stuff the whole time we were there.

Steve has a Passat so he knows about VW's and they have all the VW spec oils, even for TDI's.

I am normally leary of these types of places, but I must say that they were great. No up selling, none of the usual garbase you get at these palces, just honest work by some people that own the business and care about thier customers. I will be going back for sure.

Usually IMO the oil and the customer service at these places are not issues.

Its things like Oil FILTERS - When they use a "generic brand" that is "compatible" with like 20 cars and 5 brands, rather than one made for the car or brand. Some places might also replace things like air filters, or other wear items, with generic brands.

Also I have heard lots of stories where oil plugs have been replaced or mixed up with generic plugs that do not fit! My old Rabbit had some kind of generic oil plug that leaked and supposedly this was a result of Mr. Lube.

In summary, I would say that for an expensive car, take it to a specialist (mechanic) or dealership.

The thing with Oil filters at Lube shops is that they mainly use the filters from suppliers that give the best deal. For example, if FRAM could supply a shop with a boat load of filters for a VERY low price then that is what would be used unless stated otherwise i'm sure.

Also, you guys do know that most filters are the same on the inside right? theres only tiny, tiny, tiny differences between them.
