Any body shop guys around here? Have some paint work I did on my own. Have done small touch-up stuff a lot in the past, and usually have acceptable results. On my last go, everything looked good, but after a few weeks, one area that I painted and cleared started to show fine cracks in the clear coat. It doesn't seem to be everywhere though. I did a large part of a quarter panel, and up the A pillar and top of the door on the passenger side. The quarter panel looks fine, as does most of the A pillar but the the top of the door is where these cracks are. Pretty sure this are will start flaking off clearcoat in time. Might go to a pro to get it fixed at that time, but I would like to know what caused this so I can maybe avoid it next time.
As far as what I did.. I sanded, and cleaned with a sovlent meant for pre painting cleaning. Sprayed three coats of colour (fine, med, heavy), allowing time to flash between coats. Then applied 3 coats of clear, same way. After a week or so, I gave it all a quick wet sand, and polished it all up. It all looked good for a few weeks, then the cracks showed up.
Oh, the paint and clear that I used were mixed @ Calgary Body Shop Supplies, so it should be decent quality.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
