    soo,

I was taking ninjitsu for a bit a little while ago and was a little disapointed in the fact that there was no seperation between beginners and the more advanced students, don't get me wrong there were some positives but overall the more andvanced pretty much just used us beginners as breathing practice dummy's. So I'm looking around at a few other options. Tonight I'm going to check out a can-ryu jiu-jitsu class. Anyways just wondering if any of the rest of you folks are involved with any of the arts and if so, which. Look forward to hearing from the ninja's here and any feedback would be awesome.

    hiya!

I just carry knives and hit people with pool cue's ....No real need for ninja training

      Re: martial arts

I've been training Muay Thai/Kick boxing on and off for over a year. The place that I train at has seperate classes for the beginners and the advanced. Over this time, I've progressed very quickly and I'm very confident on my feet. It feels really good to able to work people in the ring for a few rounds.

When I have a little more time, im gonna purse some BJJ. I did a training seminar with Tito Ortiz last fall and it really made me excited about ground fighting.

If your interested in Muay Thai and live in Calgary, I'd check out Mike Miles.

        Re: martial arts

I trained for many years. Unfortunately, our club closed down, so I'm no help.

But....the important thing is the teachers and to some extent the pupils in the class as to whether it is good or not. Go for one class and you will know if it is for you. Don't hang on if it is not. Just move on.

As to the form, what is your reason for learning. Some forms are just meant for competition and have weaknesses in real life. Some are better for learning body and mind control.

Also.....if you do want to become good. At least 6 years of training in a good class before you are worth 2 cents, IMO...

I really enjoyed my time at National Brazilian Ju Jitsu. Plus a membership there is good for Mike Miles as well because they're affiliated.

My two cents is go for the BJJ, as it's more practical and about the best work out I've found yet. Combines aerobic and anerobic with real strength training.

I teach at www.hamonjj.ca. we teach can-ryu jiu jitsu with an emphasis on self defense (we still do all the traditional jiu jitsu and grappling stuff too)

we train at the Family Leisure Centre (Trico Centre now) behind Southcentre mall.

if you have any questions shoot me a PM.
