Gran torino was slow but steady, when you got the message of the movie at the end it was pretty powerful.

The new Star Trek, shockingly good! Although I had a few continuity gripes, I also have to remember it's AU … All in all a damn good movie!
I had the same gripes and the "movie news" said it makes sense because since they changed the time line the future as we knew it from the original trek series could now be different........
The big ones that irritated me were actually mostly small. The badge for instance wasn't supposed to be standardized across the Federation until AFTER the Enterprise finished it's five year mission, the ship was so much larger than the original, almost the same size as the largest ship ever (Enterprise D), and also how there were four reactor cores. Overall a big "Meh" for the issues, just my own nit-pickyness, hah.
Being AU though opens the door to an entire slew of possibilities.
I did like the tongue in cheek moments, and also some of the subtle references. Admiral Archers prized beagle for instance, hah!
