No Racing at Race City next year

Well the whole Race City thing seems to get worse by the minute since the track was closing at the end of next season and no new track is being built we all are feeling a little screwed.

So to make things worse the guy who rents the track (Rome) from (Art) and operates it is calling it quits and will not be operating the track next year and over the last couple years Art the owner of Race City has had no interest in doing it himself so the rumor is there won't even be any racing next year so three more secret streets and its all over.

With the city noise bylaws its also basically impossible to set up a new track.

I have heard rumors of a new one ending up in Airdrie or Red Deer.

I heard the new saddledome and a new horse track is going up near the super mall outside of Balzak........maybe they'll put in a race track too.........

Not to hi-jack thread but new saddledome or arena outside of town is a very bad idea, no public transit is a killer!

The race track going up near the super mall is a horse racing track I believe not for cars.

they extended secret street until the weather turns bad. that was their last note i remember. they said they were going to try adn do everything to stop people racing on the streets and bring it to the track

haha yea castrol raceway in edmonton is nice.. but is race city shutting down for good then or do they just need help? i can talk to some people about this

i thought they built a new track in bentley? who the hell is driving that far tho.. the balzac is just a horse track to my knowledge and i've never heard anything about airdrie and i'm pretty involved in the community

There is no track in Bentley but there is a dirt oval and soon to be drag strip in Rimbey but that isn't real racing anyway people have to learn to turn right and left before its actually racing.

i didn't go to race city much. It sucks that nobody has enough interest to make this work though. It's an asset to the city for sure.

well if i remember right the city wants the land back to sell for condos or houses or something no?

they could easily build a new raceway out of town in the deep S or E or N.. probably not west i'd hate if it went west

thats my 2C.. look at all the racing horror stories you hear and then they pull the plug on this.. look at how shops do track days like tunerworks

if they built a new track and had a NICE parking lot (not gravelly crap) and a nice 1/4 mile track, oval, etc to do stuff with that would be fun

I thought it was for landfill expansion, but I do think not having a track in this city or metro area is a big mistake.

I heard the same thing, and yes it would be unfortunate not to have another track to go to in/around the city. Although I don't race there often I do enjoy going down there to watch the action from time to time. With the amount of money around here now both publicly and privately I don't see why a quality track shouldn't be built. Hell I'd try to vest some company money into it to support the cause.
