The D40 is a great camera, got one for my GF (oooops now wife) and enrolled her at mount royal camera course. She picked up an $80 tripod at blacks for $30 and im hoping to get her some better lenses but not just yet coz im penniless after the wedding. She also got the 'Nikon D40x book' that explains in good detail everything that the camera can do, worth checking it out at a store if you have ten minutes to kill.
