    Re: Another election......are you serious?

I'm stopping on my way home tonight

At least I won't have to turn on the election coverage at 7:30 to be greated with "Congratulations Canada on electing your next majority Liberal Goverment" like in the old days before my vote was even counted.

              Re: Another election......are you serious?

I agree, not surprising the results, Harper gets a bit more power but not too much and this may see the end of Dion as I think the Liberals will do some re-organizing. Also makes the case for proportional representation when the Greens are pulling in nearly 7% of the votes but no seats, but the block with close to 10% gets 50 seats.

My biggest disappointment is with my local riding, Calgary Centre. The Conservative incumbent candidate makes racial comments during the campaign, does not show up to any local debates and basically did not campaign at all and still walked away a winner. Shows the narrow focus of the majority of people in this city and province, I don't mind if you are a conservative but at least do your research and justify your vote, Conservative voting does not have to just be a reaction.

I am still amazed that the bloc is actually allowed to hold seats in parliment... in the old days those people would have been hung for treason.

On a side note it seems this was the lowest turnout ever for a federal election with only 59.1% of the population bothering to cast a ballot. It makes you wonder what the outcome would be if the these people took the 5 minutes out of their lives to vote?

That's probably because most people don't care? Harper has done a fine job and many people do not want change at this time? Also, it was great to see Dion show his true colors last night on CTV. Looked like he pushed a reporter, had his security push him and then stopped to say the last people I'll speak to is CTV. WOW. Good Job.

                        Re: Another election......are you serious?

Harper has done alot for Canada since he has been in the driver seat.
I voted for Liberal however because I like what Heesung Kim (or something) stood for when it came to students.
Either way it didnt turn out to bad.
Its surprising the amount of students that did actual vote Liberal though. Perhaps its a sign of things to come after all the baby boomers kick the bucket (No pun intended)

It really just depends. The Liberals might not have done so awful if they had not had such a naive leader. Dion didn't know what to expect. Seems like a nice guy but a little naive and I don't think he knew what he was up against.

That sounds a bit crazy but the problem is you do have to keep in mind who the leader is? I think had their been a more solid party from the head down the conservatives obviously would not have been as successful as they were.

I am all for proportional representation and I think it is stupid that we have been doing it the way we have for so long. No I don't think it is a "screw the west" problem but I do think it would help voter turnout if they knew their ballot had a little more pull in who gets power. The way I look at it people who know their party will not win in their riding won't even bother to vote as it is basically a wasted ballot but with proportional representation their ballot goes a lot farther.
