    okay so my girlfriends car (98 sunfire) doesnt have air conditioning anymore but used to... if you ask any mechanic or shop they will tell you its like a thousand bucks. why?? i wanted to get this done for her but hell that is alot of money. does anyone know any cheaper methods?

    Nobody is allowed to pump in more gas without a proper pressure test of the system, and replacement of whatever part failed causing the leak. Labour on this, plus the cost of the gas, is a bugger.
    My first car had this problem, and on top of a recharge, it needed to be converted to whatever the new gas they use now is because it used the old stuff that is now illegal. I never did get it done. The A/C fix was half the value of the car. (Granted, the car was only worth 2000$)

      you can go to auto value and buy some duracool, pump it in yourself and see it it holds the charge.
