  • Re: Jetta Window Fix?

A guy here at work just had his window fall into the door of his MKIV. I was going to send him to see if George could do fix it, but George is closed until the 11th. Any other ideas, or is the dealer his only choice now?

Wasn't there something about the dealers offering a free fix for this well documented problem even after cars were out of warranty?

It should be fixed uder a "goodwill" warranty, they will tell you at the dealership that it is not covered (and it might not be anymore) but I haven't heard of anyone paying for it lately. You could always take it to Paul at Bert and Jacks. I am sure it wouldn't take to long to fix.

They stopped doing that years ago. Mine fell in last summer so I did the rounds.

Buy the kit for 70 bucks (does both doors) and you can do each in about an hour. You need 1 weird hex bit from Nappa but other than that it's pretty easy if you follow the walkthrus on vortex.

I paid for this bullsh!t fix. It's your window regulators, they were made with cheap plastic and should have been metal. I have a pdf copy of the Warranty Letter that Volkswagen of America sent to '99-'02 Golf/Jetta owners, that they'd replace them within 8 years.

I went to South Centre Fine Cars I was polite and diplomatic and they basically told me to f*ck off saying that VWoA is not VW of Canada.
Yes it's a sore spot. That dealership can suck an egg. I will never go there again.

So I went to George afterwards (TuneDub), and he told me how I can fix it myself, and I bought the part from him.
