Windshield destroyed

Nothing like a lovely random act of violence from the universe to ruin your weekend (or month, depending on what my coverage ends up being). Was driving back from Edmonton today when a rock (I assume it was a rock, I didn't see anything!) hit the left edge of my windshield. The windshield shattered at the point of impact, spraying myself and my gf with glass. Luckily, we're both okay. From the outside, it looks almost like a gun shot with large cracks spidering out, about as wide as my hand, and from the inside its spongy and clearly penetrated. I've contacted my insurance company and Volvo as well, as this is not the kind of windshield response I would expect from a company that prides itself on safety. Thank you universe, thank you very ****ing much.

Did someone throw it or did a vehicle kick it up? It must have been pretty huge to make that sized impact. Just be thankful it hit the windshield and not the body otherwise you would have a much bigger problem.

could be a vehicle my neighbour just go a new WS and 2 days later a rock hit it and left a spot the size of a big grapefruit right in the middle!

I assume it was a rock, but I didn't see anything impact it. Just the impact itself. There was a largeish pickup ahead of me in the highway lane but it was pretty far away. The sensation of feeling your own windshield glass on you is a weird one.

Just called Valentine Volvo. $900 to replace the windshield. Haven't heard from my insurance agent yet.

yuval.. yea the glass is freaky back when i was a young lad i hit a deer.. it went into my windshield and completely crushed it in like 3" from my face! the deer ended up going over the roof of the car but i wass so lucky i didn't die.. the glass bits were everywhere in teh car and on me.. i ended up having to kick the windshield out with my feet so i could drive to my parents (luckily i was about 10 minutes from home)

Sorry to hear. Welcome to the "my volvo rained glass on me club. My Sunroof exploded while driving. Insurance wouldn't cover it because I didn't have glass coverage (ripoff if you ask me). My case was a little different though as I'm still positive nothing hit my sunroof but the dealership felt differently even though I had proof of the same thing happening on other V50/S40's.

(sorry to hijack it just brought back some bad feelings to the surface)

Brutal Ryan. Jason, that's terrifying, and aggravating that there was no acknowledgment. I talked to my insurance company today and I have no windshield insurance -- who knew. I'm getting it replaced on Monday for the super fun sum of $900. :|

Most insurance companies don't offer glass coverage in calgary and those that do make it so it is not worth it.

I am having the new windshield put in on Monday. At least I'll be patched up in time for Euro Quake.

i had my driver side window blow up on me on the highway last year when the car beside me threw up a rock, only the tint held it together so i didnt get covered with glass, luckily!
