  • surge protection

Well I finally made my purchase of a 42 inch 1080p LCD TV this past Friday and the TV looks great. When I bought the TV the sales guy (like any good sales guy) tried to get me to buy a power conditioner which I really felt no need to get, he then moved on to trying to get me to buy some overpriced surge protection unit. I can see the point of having a surge protector but is there really any difference between a $100 surge protector and a $20?

This is also a bedroom TV so I am trying to keep the wire mess to a minimum and thus trying to prevent a power bar sitting on my bedroom floor. Any suggestions for what to pick up?

    Re: surge protection

Just use a regular cheap surge protector, power in Calgary is really clean in general.

If you do want to invest in something better like a power conditioner, don't buy it in town 'cause you are probably getting scammed and/or ripped off -order something online.

The power in calgary is pretty good, we rarely get brownouts etc. It might be worth it to pick up a decent computer type power bar rather then a simple crappy $5 power bar but really I don't run either on my systems.

Do your self a favour and get a surge protector that wires into the panel in the basement. Protect's everything in the house. I think's it's about $200 or so at home depot. You do need an electrician to put it in though.
