I'm still betting on a June 9th release of the new iPhone... certainly in the states, but I suspect in most other locales as well. Rogers retail stores know nothing. Ryan is right and you need connections at the corporate head office.

still gonna have to have a rogers/fido calling plan to get the phone to work, so i cant imagine that to be the case

My current phone is on its last legs but I don't want to pick up a new phone untill the iphone is released. That way I can make a better decision as to what I really want.

You would think that Rogers would give their retailers a little bit of a heads up. I highly doubt they would just dump a bunch of iphones on their laps on a sunday and say "start selling these tomorrow".

With Rogers, I would have warranty if anything decides to go south. If I buy through a middle man on the net somewhere, I don't think im gonna have too much protection.

As well as not having any warranty, you also have zero support. If you eff it up you've wasted the money. Plus if you unlocked one from the states now it'd be a waste of time since the 3G phone will probably be released/unveiled at the WWDC in a couple days.

As for if a store would have inventory, they wouldn't have any stock in advance, it would come the day of the release or the day before. How Apple works is you sign an embargo a week in advance saying you will order some new product without knowing what it is (you can speculate privately all you'd like but they won't say a word). You then cannot say a thing until the day it's released, again since you don't know what it is. The stock will arrive that day or late the previous day. If anyone is found talking about an upcoming product during that week you know in advance your authorization can and will be pulled from them and you'll be out forced to shut down.

I guess im a little different...if a cell phone lasts me more than a year, i would consider that a great success (so far, its never happened)

Will be interesting to see the prices. Looks like Rogers and Fido will both offer it, wonder what the difference will be, no data on Fido maybe?

That website says 199 in the US, wonder how close Canada will be having not had it yet.

Apple actually has pretty close prices on it's products between the US and Canada so hope that continues but I guess that depends how much Rogers got involved but they are expecting to sell 500,000 in 12 months here so I would expect maybe around $250 for an 8 gig with 2-3 year contract and probably $80 a month plan????

Its the plan that will kill you. For the money they make on voice/data plans they should be given the phones away.
