  • LCD TV with glare?

Just a quick question for those of you with LCD and Plasma TV's (I'm still rockin the CRT). I'm helping my dad pick out a new TV for his place, and we are looking at either the LCD Sharp Aquos, or the Panasonic Plasma.

I've heard that for rooms with a fair amount of natural light (windows), Plasma is better because the glare doesn't affect the picture as much. How big of a difference is there? Also - what about viewing from an angle?

Suggestions on the Sharp Aquos LCD vs Panasonic Plasma?
Sidewalks are for normal walkin.... aint no room for fancy walkin....

Other way around Bud. If your Tv is going in a room with any windows, for sure go with LCD. Plasma are not nearly bright enough to deal with natural light; and the glare is bad!

If your putting a tv in like a bedroom or a basement, plasma is good because the colors are a bit richer.

I have my 46'' Lcd facing a huge south facing window. The sun can be right on the tv and i can still see it fine with almost no glare. And its still plenty bright enough. Also depened on size by how far you will be sitting away. I believe 46'' is 8 feet, 50'' is 10 feet etc

I bought a new samsung 1080p 15,000;1 contract ratio and i love it.

My dad just bought a hitatchi plasma for his basment and the tv is quite impressive! I think both would be fine from an angle. I have my lcd in a corner and i can see it fine from every angel possible.

I don't think glare has as much to do with whether it's LCD or plasma as it has to do with the construction of them. Plasma uses a glass screen (actually 2 glass panels to trap the gas) which will naturally have glare due to it being actual glass. LCD's can glare just as much if they use a gloss screen. Many LCD's are available in a matte finish screen so are better at reducing the amount of glare.

We have a LOT of windows where our plasma is mounted but we chose to go plasma over LCD and deal with the glare for the simple fact that LCD looks HORRIBLE while watching standard def tv. It looks grainey like you have bad reception. Plasma does a much better job with standard def. We watch a lot of standard def tv on that one as it's in the sitting area, the hi-def tv where we watch movies and such is set up somewhere else.

I have a Sharp Aquos LCD (46" or 48"...don't remember) and I love it. I have it mounted in my living room which is littered with windows and I barely get any glare. As for the standard def channels, its not bad at all. My HD channels are amazing especially for sporting events

It took me over a month to decide on which TV to choose. I went shop to shop to compare each TV's picture quality and price. I also did some research on the net. All signs pointed to the Sharp Aquos.....but It didnt come cheap. Keep in mind that I bought my TV almost a year ago and things might be different now. Good Luck.

I have a 50" Panasonic Plasma with a Matte finish on the glass and love it. I have it in a basement but there is still lots of light.
