You can thank China for that. They are responsible for putting 500,000 new cars on the roads of China each month.

Canada in total has 27 million vehicles.

You can also thank whatever car maker just released a car for 2k to make driving accessible in poor countries.

The other day CIBC posted an analyst report that predicted gas to be at $2.50 per litre within 5 years. That's close to $170 to fill the tank in my GTI.

thats just insane if thats the case.. it'll be cheaper to buy mods for the car than the fill it up

here is something interesting i read the other day about the insane gas prices, food prices, house prices happening all over the world.. its engineering breakdown of society so that the poor get poorer. the 3rd world people die off/kill each other, etc for population control tactics and the rich morons who control the banks keep smiling while they run the countries

Saturn really shot themselves in the foot when they decided to kill the EV-1 electric car they made a number of years ago. Had they stuck with it and advertised it a little more aggresively, they could have made alot of money.

If anyone is interested in seeing a cool documentary, check out "who killed the electric car?". I really enjoyed it and it was quite informative. I rented it at blockbuster after it was recommended to me.

If gas prices hit those prices, im guessing alot of people would much rather stay at home than go out as much as they currently do. As a result, many buisnesses are gonna feel the crunch and our economy will suffer.

The car manufacturer you speak of is called Tata. I believe they recently bought the rights to Landrover aswell.

Thats a good point but I would argue that this has been happening for ages both locally and internationally. Look at the U.S. and their foreign affairs over the last 100 years. They have gone into foreign countries and taken their natural resources for their own benefit and have left those raped countries to starve economically. The rich get richer and poor get poorer.

true brent but you get double/triple the mileage that some of us get

derek gets like 250-300km/tank on his GTI!
i'll get 400-500 on mine if i drive nice
                    300 if i boost alot

so when you get 1000 on a TDI its still cheaper in the end..

audi where are your TDIs damnit!

                      Re: Gas Prices Rant.

I guess getting into a small car before the summer hits wouldn't be such a bad thing. I'ts like the TDI craze that happened in 05 when prices spiked, everyone is going to be flocking to get a small fuel efficient car.

I know someone that has a 1 ton truck, loves it, drove it every day to and from work, one of those people that "Has to have a truck", but diesel was getting expensive, so, for the price of a tank of fuel he bought a civic and drives that to work everyday. There's going to be more and more people like this.

I know someone that spends 450 a month driving his truck to and from work. You could easily lease a small car and pay for the gas for less than driving your truck around.

Part of me hates it because I just can't buy what I want (Like Ryan that wants a bigger motor/more power) and not care about the cost of using it, but on the other hand, it just means people are going to be forced to look at a vehicle the same way they look at other things. Sure I'd like a bigger house on a bigger lot in a nicer part of town, and I could probably make it work, but it's not financially feasible so I don't. Same goes now if I want to buy a V8 car/truck. Sure I can afford it but what will I have to sacrifice to do so.

I wonder what effect his will have on inner city living? I bought my house last summer and it is more or less by today’s standard inner city living.

Canada's gas prices are pretty low compared to most other countries, apart from the U.S.

This is a simple supply/demand issue. I think we'll see the global economy change an immense amount over the next 5-6 years as China and India continue their development in Western style consumerism.

The price of food has gone up almost 50% since 2006, and will continue to rise as larger nations begin to adopt more of a Western diet of wheat and meats. I think $2.50 gas will be seen within a few years, and the pressure on importing nations will be immense. Be glad Canada is resource rich.....

I read somewhere they are paying $12 a gallon for Gas in Hawaii.
Sidewalks are for normal walkin.... aint no room for fancy walkin....

Yes everyone wants to move downtown so you can drive Smart cars and walk to work

Most families in a city like ours are multi vehicle and I dont think that will change but I do think you will see more and more that one of those vehicles will be a smaller more efficient car, and the big truck or SUV might only be used when it is needed.

We are also a wealthy and oil & gas driven city so this increase is probably going to just keep putting more money in the same pockets and a lot of them sure don't care what the cost of gas is. My Dad's attitude is higher prices are better for us and he doesn't seem to mind either one of his vehicles is getting close to a $100 fill.

I am just more worried about the cost of everything else going up.
