  • Thai/Cambodia

Well I am back as of Monday night. 45 degree change in temp. It was 35 when I left Bangkok and -7 here with snow. I dont think I had a day under 35 degrees. It is the hot season there so temps over 40 where almost everyday. I tanned before I went and it didnt help much. SPF 45 and 20 mins in that sun still equal a burn.
It was a good trip. No real complaints. Food was great. People are nice. Some other travellers who go evey year mentioned to us prices in Thailand have doubles in 2 years and tripled in the past 4.
My only issue was the snow when I got home. I had put my summer rims and tires on before I left (my nokians were not holding up with the +10 degree weather). It was a chance I had to take. It was a bad one. Left my car at a friends house on a ranch in Cochrane. Snow was so high I moved 10 feet and got high centred. Pulled me out with his durango, but on the way out of his driveway the car went into the ditch. By the time we got it out all the plastic was ripped off the underside of the car. Belly pan is gone....shredded. Wheel well plastic all came off. I was going to order the metal belly pan from Dieselgeek before I left so it would be waiting for me when I got home. I didnt and now have to wait the 3 weeks for it to get here. Took the better part of 3 hours to fix the wheel wells today. I babied it home that night afer hitting a car wash to try and get the snow out from under it. Nice and compacted.

So I cant remember who on this site was heading to Thailand next but if you want any advice or have questions let me know.

I am only going to be in Phuket for 1 night, but with the cost of flights it seemed silly to at least not check it out and have a nice day on the beach. I am staying at the Indigo Pearl, looks so amazing, not cheap for Thai standards but I think it looks wonderful!

Why not just go to C1 and buy the evolution skid plate. It is cheaper and you don't have to wait (or pay duty and shipping etc).

Nai Yang beach, nice and close to the airport since we are a quick in and out, just a nice break from the busy cities for us.

                            Re: Thai/Cambodia

English is very common. The only ones that are not so good with it are the very old. Rememer it was a vacation spot for troups during the Vietnam war. So usually 50 and younger know english. The kids i find are better with english then Canadians. Most families if they can afford it send the kids to "international" schools. So english is spoken as a primary language.
Also there are tins of "white" people all around. I expected to feel a minority(like I did in Texas) but thats not the case. Thailand is more popular for Aussies and Europeans then for North Americans.
