Re: Thinking about a small car

For once I agree with Geoff, Toyota is going down hill, they are riding on the heels of their reputation when it comes to the quality of their every day cars like the Camry now.

For cost of purchase, you should just negotiate the hell out of it and see if you can do better too. This time of year, 2009 models are coming soon, some dealers might have new 2007's on the lot leftover still?

      Ok, I found this....

As with Aveo, the Wave is built in Korea by GM-DAT (General Motors-Daewoo Auto and Technology, formed when GM bought controlling interest in bankrupt Korean automaker Daewoo in 2002).
I think I just talked myself out of one. I've actually driven a couple Daewoo's and they were brutal. My mistake, I thought they were Japanese built.

when the lease is up it'll have a whopping 50k if that on it.. its barely driven (as my wife works in airdrie) but yea its basically waiting a year from now which probably doesn't work for you

I will probably try that, or make some sacrifices on something better like a fit/versa/yaris and get it into the same price.

Ryan, yea, if I go through with my plan it will be in the next couple months.

For your needs I would go with a new civic sedan. 0.9% financing, gets nearly the same milage as the fit, excellent resale, and is elegible for the goverment rebate. Also, they start at $17k.

for 17 you could get a mk4 TDI tho and that'll get better mileage than all of them

Astra? A little more expensive perhaps but maybe some good bargaining room plus low GM financing (esp if you signed up at the auto show)

True, but the civic would have 0 kms, (almost) 0% financing, and with the price of diesel right now (I know it can change) fueling the civic might not be much more than a tdi. Of course with the civic you would have to live with that god-awful interior.

Dont know much about the new astra, but I've seen a few on the road and they actually look not too bad.

Re: Thinking about a small car

yea, I could go for an Astra, I don't mind them at all but it's creeping up there, we're now at about 23,000 and 3.9% interest. they can be had for cheaper in 3-door and less options, but you need to be almost fully loaded to get AC which is too bad (The 5dr XE with AC is MORE than the XR which includes AC and a ton of other stuff).

Haven't priced a Civic as a Fit was pushing it. Also, my last experience with a civic (2004) was not a pleasurable one. I did not like that car at all. Wife hated it even more so not sure that would be on the list. I like the older civics but I'm trying to stay away from that.

And yea, TDI isn't an option, new they are expensive as they don't make a low model one, and used they are not practical for what you pay. Even for 17 grand they will have well over 100,000kms which will mean no warranty or anything.

Re: Thinking about a small car

Gov rebates are gone anyway on the new models. :(

You will not be able to deal much on Fits as they are super popular and flying out the door. Everyone is looking for small cars. Now an Explorer, we're talking big deals. Nissan Versa had some bargaining room but not much.

The Daewoos aren't THAT bad - I drove an Optra which is a bit bigger than the Aveo and as an appliance car it was just fine. It's been over a year of ownership with no issues at all so far.

Financing a 4K note shouldn't be that big a deal, even at 7%. I wouldn't go much higher though. No HELOC?

I'd also sell you my Sentra cheap if you wanted it. 2003 with under 100k, good daily driver, but not a new car.

I have a one year old yaris i picked up used. It has all options and was $12. Now i like it way better then the old echo which it replaced. i owned 2 echos and they are crap cars. Very cheap build to them. The Yaris is actually a well built car from my view. Better looks, better (and way quieter) interior.

                                Just my two bits.
