My Wife's favorite store sells Illy, I haven't tried it though.

I have a barista from Starbucks, seems to do a pretty good job and is relatively idiot proof (which is good for me). I got it when they were deeply discounted because they were going to the refreshed model.

I really wish I would have got an Auto/Semi Auto though. And I would use it WAY more if the boiler was big enough so I could do an americano. Right now I have to heat up water as well.

      Re: espresso machine

I have the Barista too (got it free with using my Starbucks Visa) and it has lasted quite well as we use it daily on average. I hope to get something a little higher end next time, but might as well use this till it kicks the bucket. I only drink americanos but I always just use the kettle for the additional water, and I have tried lots of different espressos and my favorite is still Illy, too bad it is usually close to $20 a tin.

I usually get Kicking Horse Coffee... they are roasted in Invermere, so I guess I'm supporting my home town. Their espresso and other dark roasts are pretty good though.

Agreed, kicking horse coffee is really good, they brew it at some restaurants and it's awesome.

I ended up buying the Saeco Via Venezia.....Heres the kicker, for $200 as they were moving them out of Starbucks! Stainless steel boiler, all metal construction, and decent reviews online.....i'm happy, and jittery now from my first latte using kicking horse espresso....yikes!

Forgot to mention its basically a Saeco Aroma repackaged for *$

                      Re: espresso machine

Can probably just put in a new pump? I know there are big modder communities for those things and you said you have a gaggia right, i think there are a lot of gaggia modders.

                        Re: espresso machine

i decided to be done with it. I tried to rebuild the pump, with no luck. I think i can get a pump that will work, but not the exact one. Would be about 90$.

I ran a whack of descaler through it though, and noticed quite a lot of metallic fleck coming through (the pump was really clean, so the flecks were not from there) , so I think aluminum the boiler is in rough shape. Even if I fix the pump, I'm not sure I want to be consuming aluminum.

                          Re: espresso machine

Yah, they have a bimetal boiler in them which makes them succeptable to corroding.....Very odd, but very common.....You can buy the parts on ebay if you really want to rebuild it.....
