So, just wonding what kinda anti-spam,anti-virus etc etc you guys are using on you computers? Ive heard noton isnt the best out there, is it ? Any help/advice would be awesome..
Got it off of OiNK. the majority of the "indy-music-loving-techno-geek" population there used it. seems to get the job done, with minimal resources used.
coming from over paid IT guy... here are some tips..
anti-virus-
free/legal for home usage if you are not good with computers - get avg free from download.com
free/legal for any users if they are familiar with what NOT to click on - get clamwin - look for it on google
clamwin is great but doesn't do live scanning..
free/legal spyware protection - ad-aware and spybot should do it..
paid for -
just virus/spyware protect - nod32 is great.. so is trendmicro,
for complete protection that includes everything under the sun - get avg internet security - this will slow your computer down... but not as bad as norton or mcafee suite... if you have norton or mcafee, remove it..
also avg suite (also look for it on download.com) is good for cleaning out infected computers since full version comes with 30 day trial.. install. clean system, uninstall...
for pirate -
get symantec end point suite... easy to pirate thanks for no serial key or license files - does not do spam filtering though..
anti-virus- get avg free from download.com
free/legal spyware protection - ad-aware and spybot should do it..
Thats me all over. but i stop anything from running in th background and jsut scan any files i download before i open them and run adaware & spybot about every 3 months
Also im behind a router which offers some protection as well!
Eric..
Nobody knows everything, but everybody knows something you don't!
corporate versions are actually really good (either)
best option; rebuild your computer frequently haha.
edit: corporate versions are typically the best to pirate FYI, same deal with no cd key requirements, but better cause you dont get a bloated ass client
Personally the AVG they use at work here sucks and i would never put it on my home computer.
Adaware and spybot i use both at home and at work.
2020 Toyota Corolla Hatch (At least its a Manual!)
2001 Audi S4 (Trunk still smells like Ryan?)
2001 Audi A4 - RIP
2004 Mygale SJ04 - Racecar
2013 Toyota Sienna - Baby Transporter
2001.5 Audi S4 -SOLD
1986 Reynard SF86 -SOLD
2003 Jetta GLI - Garbage bin
FYI, Norton is not Symantec... they might be same company but completely different software.. Symantec corporate edition is actually pretty good... Norton sucks... McAfee is just crap all around (just a personal view)...
FOr my Computer I use AVG both anti-virus and anti-spyware versions. Has worked awesome! Has caught all sorts of stuff coming in, scans emails, and saved files as they come in....its really good!
