Re: City of crap transit rant

Bronco lives down the street from me. He's pretty intimidating since I'm not tall by any means. He's got a dynamite grip. 1$ a day would be fine if they had some upgrades going on! I never use Calgary Transit anymore so it's not a big deal to me. I might in a few years.

there is no bigger pain in the ass when you are late to try and pay for parking. lump it into the ticket and pass price and spread the buck. Hell I'm paying for all these idiots who choose to live out in rocky ridge and drive to dalhousie and crowfoot by barely being able to get on the train, and paying for a massive extension. i don't use that either. so may not use the parking lots but loop it all together.

Paying for parking is a bad idea, logistically it will be a pain in the ass and may discourage some people from using transit.

In my opinion Calgary transit need to do this, put new cameras everywhere, parking lots, stations maybe even inside the trains. There should be a security booth in every station with 2 guards there at all times with a direct line to the Police if trouble escalates. And finally they need to upgrade to 4 car trains and stations everywhere as soon as possible and all this should be a priority before expanding to the west.

          My thoughts at least.

You raise a good point, and I think that you are right. Perhaps they need to go to soem sort of "zone" pass like Sky Train in Vancouver. The further out you live, the more you pass costs. That would help cover the costs of extensions.

I am on the fence about the pay for parking option, and it really does not effect me.

well on the topic, i think all the city aldermen and the mayor should take the public transit! it will also free up their parking spots that they get in city hall for the shortage of short term parking downtown. They only take it when it's election time, it's almost like they are afraid of everyone on the trains.

paying for parking will only congest the parking lot and the roads entering the stations with people trying to pay.

Yea, I'm from Vancouver so I am used to it. I have no problem with them extending the ctrain, so long as these extensions don't affect current users close in to the city. Make them pay more because they choose to buy cheaper houses and pay less tax living further away from the city. It is costing the rest of us more to subsidize the infrastructure for them. Calgary needs to stop extending its limits and creating seperate municipalities and districts. It just makes no sense the way they are currently doing things.

But that's a whole different side topic

Re: City of crap transit rant

There are a few cities in the US that let you ride the transit system for free. Given that the CTS does not pay its own way from the ticket price (ie the taxpayers kick in the rest). When you figure in the costs of printing tickets, selling tickets, counting money, book keeping and enforcing payment you make even less money. I wish that CTS would look outside the box at what other cities are doing.

The transit or "chance-it" as I like to call it sucks balls. I avoid using it a all costs. I see the ctrain every morning crammed full of suckers going to spend eight or more hours in their cubical ridden high rises. If I had to work downtown I would probably have hung myself by now. With this new pay for parking idea we may just see more suicides in the news.

Re: City of crap transit rant

So all the people who need to get CTrain down town will carry on parking and expect pay rises to cover the costs which will eventually filter back to more expensive goods and services and the world will be economically balanced again until the next upset.

Re: City of crap transit rant

Yet another reason why I don't go near transit. Yes, I pay to park downtown. They wring $500 a month out of my ass.

Typically it takes me about 30 minutes to get from McKenzie Towne to then Pengrowth HQ beside the Maid. I took transit once and that time gapped up to an 1:45 from door to door. Parking at a train station drops it down to about 1:30 (if I can find a spot).

For convenience and timeliness transit sucks balls, and with the parking fee it's not making big inroads for cost effectiveness either.
