City of crap transit rant

Anyone see the news last night on how the city if all big on public transit safety now.. so they are maybe going to CHARGE PEOPLE TO PARK AT CTRAIN LOTS! no word of bus park/rides but either way! That moron bronco on the news said.. oh it'd only be a dollar or two.. the news reported there are approx. 13000 parking spots across the ctrains lots in Calgary. So @ 1$ a car and they are pretty much always full on a day they are making 13grand a day!

now the city wants people to take public transit to help aid in traffic congestion in/out of downtown and to help out the environment..

well when i moved to calgary in 99 transit passes were 1.50/ticket they are now 2.50/ticket now I can justify the ticket price as the employees need to make more money to live in this stupid city as it is

so why would i pay to park then pay again to take the craptastic train/bus that has issues summer and winter! we've all seen the other rants haha

if this does happen to go through one more reason for me to leave this dump of city

I dunno, some of the stations are not very safe, I knew a guy a few years ago who got beaten and mugged at Anderson station which is basically in a nice part of town, also I know a lot of girls don't feel okay walking to the train station themselves at night in some parts of town. I think its okay to raise money to clean up the stations and parking lots. Sorry that you don't want to pay but people should feel safe and people aren't feeling that way. Its not like afraid passengers can hire bodyguards, there is no alternative. I would rather they do this than up taxes for everyone including people not riding the trains?

I think I am among the biggest haters of calgary transit, and I havent set foot on a bus in about 8 years..just ride the train daily.

Now...I understand that the train station parking lots arent exactly ideal places to leave your car for any length of time, and I would be happy to pay to park my car if we had an even somewhat remotely reliable, comfortable transit system.

The service is absolute crap...at least 2 of 5 days a week there is some sort of a delay, train breakdown etc....its a slap in the face when douchebag politicians get in front of a camera and say we have a "world class" transit system...our trains STOP FOR FUCKING TRAFFIC LIGHTS!!! lets be serious here, when was the last time you were in a major city and saw that...that wasnt in the 3rd world?!

Ive never felt un-safe taking calgary transit at any time of night, if you have a problem walking to your car from the train, you're likely going to ahve a problem walking from your office to your car in a parkade, or your car in a mall...
There was talk a few years back about having priority parking that you'd pay for which would be close to the platforms and well lit, cameras etc...THAT i can get behind to give some people options.

yep.. i agree james i feel the same walking down 7th ave at night as i do walking in a ctrain lot.. if i was a woman i'd feel different but we do have city police and the cameras everywhere.. so keep cops local and if a camera sees something send one out.. sure it may not be as fast but really if there are 3 people breaking into a car do you really think an immigrant rental cop (no i'm not trying to stereotype) is going to try and stop them! hellz no he wants to feed his family he'll just call the cops anyways!

I'm amazed they don't already charge for parking, the way things are going in this city. Seems like it costs $$$ to park everywhere else.

Poor transit service might have something to do with their lack of manpower. Large turnover rate along with all of the babyboomers leaving makes for staff shortages.

here's my thing, you want to increase ridership. you do this by giving people an incentive to not drive their cars. When you keep increasing the fees to ride, and now make me pay to park my car, i can just drive, be hassle free and get to my door and pay to do all that too.

It just makes no sense.

I park at mcmahon and see NO reason why they need to create pay parking there or any sort. It's already bad enough the trains are too short and I can barely get on in the morning....all cause I live close to Downtown and choose not to live in the burbs....

Not only that but look at the price. if they filled 5000 spots/day times 5 days a week times 50 weeks that is over 1.5 million? Thats a lot of money for some security.
