Thats a joke these guys really are crooks. This whole situation could be bypassed if one does just not use Calgary BMW. Besides RIV doesn't specify whether the Recall clearance letter comes from the US or Canada.

This just keeps getting better. As of Nov 27, 2007 they no longer accept US Dealer letters (of which I was just advised by RIV).

Also, they made me pay duty at the border when I brought the car in from the US since I couldn't prove that it was made in the US - although it was manufactured in Spartenburg SC. I sent Customs a letter which was given to me by BMW Canada stating the vehicle was made in that plant, and they just sent me back a letter denying my refund. It's been explained to me that because the VIN starts with WBS, BMW cannot override where it was built. The lady at Customs told me I would need to get a NAFTA certificate from BMW - which she advised they would not give me. Great!

2 months ago she said people were getting rebates for the M Coupe, but "it was brought to the attention of Canada Customs" that the M Coupe is not exempt. I have no doubt BMW Canada is behind this.... and it's blatantly wrong. BMW Manufacturing even has a Z3 party at the Spartenburg Plant once per year.....
