No, but if you drive a bentley I'm sure that you could afford a limo or to hire a driver for the night, especially if your one of the few who have the money to repurchase your bentley.

However not being able to find a ride home is really not an excuse and one should not be drinking if that's the problem.

How is it not an excuse?..Maybe not a GOOD excuse, but how often do you make GOOD decisions whilst under the influence?

It's not a valid excuse because if you know you cannot find a ride home like you have said then you by no means should start drinking.

"I felt like it" is a valid excuse, granted we're arguing logistics now..all im trying to say is you could land yourself at a bar where you have every intention of leaving your car for the evening, then find out that its an hour and a half to get a cab. In your inhebriated state, driving doesnt always sound like the worst idea even though you know its stupid!

and yeah, moving downtown..maybe ill do that..got a spare half mil to lend me, Blair? haha

if they took your car away, it would make that decision easier for you.

The car of the drunk should be impounded and not returned until they pay for a unit like that to be installed. end of story.

they already do this if you are convicted of drunk driving and you kill someone or soemthing like that. guy i knew when i did construction back in the day had to blow before his car would start. Then while driving every 20mins or so he would have to blow or the vehicle would shut off.

My brother had this because he got into an accident a few years ago and was drunk. It's not worth it. It really isn't. Such a big pain in the ass and it will stick with you for the rest of your life but let's not forget the chance of killing someone. My brother was lucky, but many aren't. The blowing device is really a pain in the ass so let me tell you about it. You have to blow to start your car up , you either a) pass or b) fail and while RONDAL is right about the timer, it is also random, could be 20 minutes, could be 5 minutes or it could be 50, it's pretty random. Let's say you go out the night before and drink, but don't drive. The next day if you want to drive, you'll go to blow and your blood still has alcohol in it, so if that level is too much for you to drive, it will count as a fail, and the device will be sent to the people monitoring you and you'll have to write a letter as to why you failed. You'll also get slapped with a longer period of how long the device will have to stay on. For my brother, for the time he crashed to the time he finally was free if the device was around 3 years. He had to wait for his court date, then his license suspended and then a blowing device. It's only been about two or 3 months since he got it off. He is now 24.

Don't do it, such a hassle and everyone will get annoyed of driving your ass around. Call a cab or call one of those companies that will drive your car home for you.

lol. believe me, it's already happened! but i am glad you find me rosy.

now i think you're a pretty well respected member here so i'm not calling you personally out. you jive?

the way i see it is if you are someone who would think it's unfair or unjust, you are also the type of person who drives drunk. even on occasion. now you are really playing with fire. just because you are caught once doesn't mean it's your first time doing it.

i don't kill people so i couldn't care less what the punishment is. i don't drive drunk, so i couldn't care less what that is either. MADD wants you charged with attempted murder, i think losing your car is a fair trade off for stupidity. sorry we don't see completely eye to eye on this one.
you probably don't like me because someone else said they didn't lol. <3

That perspective is so dangerous to society I can't even express it properly. That's like saying I'm not black so I don't care if black people are thrown in jail for no reason. You don't have to be affected by a law or rule to be opposed.

You guys talk like "DRUNK DRIVING" is some sort of scientific absolute. The actual charge is IMPAIRED DRIVING and you can get it for being sleepy, talking on your cell phone, being overly emotional, having rowdy passengers, being on cold meds, etc. I guarantee every single one of you has driven while impaired by at least one of the above.

Do you really think we should be setting punishments that severe based on an arbitrary number that doesn't even cover half the population? What about drugs - there's no "blowing over" for narcotics.

I'm all for video of people's actual driving and behavior while on a stop - regardless of what impairment they have. Convict on that, and make it reasonable.

That's the other thing - if the punishment is crushed car, do you think a drunk is going to just pull over? What do they have to lose by running?
